Getting the News with Loana Solis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Loana Solis

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Houston, TX

Her Campus Texas: Are you invloved in any organizations?

Loana Solis: I joined TSTV my freshman year. I was so excited to be a part of it I went to the building to check out the place during orientation. When school finally started I went to the general meeting to get more info. From that I decided I wanted to join a couple of shows.

HCTX: Can you tell us more about what you do with TSTV?

LS: Right now I am part of KVR news and Sneak Peek and enjoy working on them so much. I love helping in whatever way possible.

HCTX: What have you learned from your experiences with TSTV?

LS: Doing live segments was something I was not prepared for it was really scary but after doing my first one I felt so accomplished. Going out of the field, doing interviews and filming can be stressful but it really helped me become more comfortable with my abilities. I have also learned how to write readers and do packages.

HCTX: What do you like to do outside of school?

LS: This semester I am shadowing at KVUE whenever I’m free from school. I am also big on arts and crafts and I spend time making my own projects and of course I love hanging out with my friends.

HCTX: What are your plans for after school?

LS: I would love more than anything to leave UT and go straight to working in Houston whether it be reporting or producing. However, it really just depends on what jobs I get offered but I am working hard while I am here to get the best job opportunities possible.

HCTX: What do you love about attending UT?

LS: Being in such an eventful city like Austin and taking advantage of all the opportunities UT provides not only for my major but for my future.

HCTX: What is your advice for freshman just getting started?

LS: Get involved and never be afraid to ask for help. I was really scared my freshmen year I didn’t want to mess up, but we are in college to learn from our mistakes. I believe that when I leave UT I will have the skill necessary to succeed in my career.
