Indiana University has an incredibly large student body filled with bright, intelligent, young minds. Given that it boasts some of the most prestigious and best schools in the country for journalism, music, and business – to name a few – it is no surprise that so many notable Hoosiers have gone on to achieve fame.
1. Mark Cuban
Cuban is a “shark investor” on the television series, Sharktank. He is also the owner of the NBA’s, Dallas Mavericks, Landmark Theatres, and Magnolia Pictures. Cuban graduated from the Kelley School of Business in 1981 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
2. Suzanne Collins
Collins is the mastermind behind the International best-seller The Hunger Games trilogy. Collins obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from IU in 1985 with a double major in theater and telecommunications.
3. Catt Sadler
Catt Sadler is our favorite adorable, petite brunette correspondent and co-anchor for E! News. Sadler hails from Martinsville, IN and graduated from IU with a degree in Journalism.
4. Ryan Murphy
Murphy, originally from Indianapolis, is the genius creator/co-creator behind a number of hit television shows including Glee, American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck, and The New Normal. While at IU, Murphy was a staff member of the Indiana Daily Student and was a part of “Singing Hoosiers.”
5. Trista Sutter
Trista Rehn, as we all came to know her when she was runner up on the hit show, The Bachelor, was the first woman to be featured as The Bachelorette. After finding love with winner, Ryan Sutter, Trista now lives in Colorado with her family. Sutter graduated from IU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. While here, Trista was a sister of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
6. Joshua Bell
You may have read a story about the famous violinist who played in Washington D.C. metro and no one paid attention. Well, that famous, Grammy award-winning violinist is none other than IU Jacobs School of Music alum, Joshua Bell. Not only is Bell a Hoosier, he is also a B-Town original, born and raised right here in Bloomington.
7. Jared Fogle
Jared, other wise known as “The Subway guy” who lost an incredible amount of weight from “the Subway diet”. While an IU student, Jared frequented the Subway on the corner of Atwater and Woodlawn.
8. James D. Watson
Although, better known as the duo “Wastson and Crick”, James Watson, was a co-discoverer of the DNA structure we all learned about in Biology. While Watson was not an under-grad student at IU, he did receive his Ph.D from Indiana in 1950.
