The First Year Players of Syracuse University are proud to present… Steven Szachara as Gomez Addams in The Addams Family! Her Campus Syracuse is even prouder to present Steven as our Campus Celebrity for February!
Name: Steven “Schmeeb” Szachara
Year: Freshman; Class of 2018
Hometown: I lived in Rochester, NY, for six years, then Colorado for six, then moved back to Rochester the summer before freshman year.
Major: Systems and Information Sciences
How did you get involved with FYP?: Members of Orange Appeal told me to audition. (Steven is a bass for the ever-appealing all male a cappella group, Orange Appeal.)
When did you get interested in theatre?: Since I was a kid! I did very – you know – “kiddie” shows. I as Mogli in Jungle Book. I did Cinderella. I started very young – like, fourth or fifth grade.
What are some of your favorite roles?: The Lion in The Wizard of Oz. It was very funny; comedic. I could do my own thing. Doing the shows in school and being a part of drama club established my reputation – who I was.
Why Systems and Information Studies?: With my Fine Arts in business, I want to develop apps for children’s games, teaching technology, or any other companies that want to develop a new app or start-up.
What are some of your favorite things to do on campus?: Definitely hanging out in Panaschi Lounge, just to chill and do homework. I’ll see a lot of Orange Appeal and First Year Players people. OA and FYP are involved in pretty much everything I do on campus.
What is the best part of getting to sing at ‘Cuse?: I get to work on my computer skills and also have my musical outlet. It’s not necessarily the career choice I want to make. To quote Hannah Montana, “It’s the best of both worlds.”
What can we expect to see you in next month?: There’s a pajama show for a cappella groups – Cozy Capella. OA has an invitational in March. (How about the show?) Well, yeah, the show! That’s April 9, 10, and 11.
What’s your favorite animal?: Black puma, hands down.
If you could go cliff-diving with anyone, who would it be?: Kevin Spacey.
What do you do while you comb your hair?: Well… I don’t! I use my supple hands. The hands of grace. And a lot of product to caress the masterpiece that is my flow.
