Book Review: Dirty Rush

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Remember Rebecca Martinson? You might know her better as the “Deranged Sorority Girl.” The one who wrote a very colorful email to her ex-sorority sisters that was later read by Academy Award-nominated Michael Shannon on Funny or Die. Well her infamous letter, and with the help of Babe Walker, author of White Girl Problems, inspired Taylor Bell, writer for Total Frat Move, to write her glimpse into the Greek life novel Dirty Rush.

Now this book does not sugar coat Greek life, it tells it like it is. Heck, the book is even dedicated to Miley Cyrus. With the first chapter appropriately named “Tequila, Lime Juice, and Adderall” you know you’re in for a whirlwind of a story. You follow Taylor’s first year at college and her process of joining the Greek life as a Beta Zeta Legacy. Her experience is anything short from a “sorority- sister fairytale.”

This book is filled with tons of “LOL” and “OMG” moments that are going to make you want to not put down your Venti Iced Passion Tea from Starbucks. From drunk, drug-infused party nights to the bond of sisterhood, this book has it all. As college students there is something in this book you can relate to. Whether you are part of Greek life, thinking about going Greek, or a GDI, this book is for anyone and everyone in college. This is more than just a book about partying or sisterhood, it’s about finding your friends and yourself in college. After reading Dirty Rush you soon realize we all have a little Taylor Bell in us.
