How to Prepare Yourself for Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Now that Spring Break’s over, the thing on all of our minds is WHEN IS SUMMER?! Although it feels like forever from now, it couldn’t come any sooner and it’s going to approach really fast. Come May 5th, you want your summer to be successful and fun. No one wants to stress about post-graduation jobs, what summer term to take, how to earn money, or where to vacation last minute. Finals are hard enough, so here are some helpful tips for you to be on top of your game and to get you prepared for summer early!

Sign Up for Classes– Get the perfect schedule for next year so you don’t have to carry that burden with you over summer. Pick what summer term to take, if you’re taking one, check Rate My Professors, and make sure you enroll on time! You can even plan for fall or spring, get the best of the best so your upcoming year is fun.

Finish Strong– End the semester strong and on a good note. If it’s your last semester at UCF make it count. Even if it isn’t, end the spring with good grades and a good attitude- Summer is a comin’!

Apply for An Internship– You can never get experience like obtaining an internship. Go to Intern Pursuit on March 30th held in the Pegasus Ballroom. You’ll be able to talk to (hopefully) future employers and 95 companies that will help you get your feet wet in the professional world, you can never start too early! (Look on the ‘Quotes’ website for more details.)

Apply for a Part-Time Job– If you’re going home for the summer, or even staying in Orlando, earn some extra cash! Don’t spend your summer being too lazy, get some extra money in your pocket and something else add to your résumé. Start searching now because everyone is going to be on the look-out come May and you want your first picks!

Get a Passport– You never know when your family or friends might plan a last minute vaca cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. It never hurts to be ready and have a passport handy, plus they don’t expire for years so it’s great to have. You might need one Bahama mama.

Beach Bod– If you plan on spending your summer at the beach, working out and getting in shape is how you can get ready. Results don’t appear overnight, set a goal for yourself and work towards it for a couple months. It’ll make you feel happier and healthier too.

Remember: “you don’t sweat, you sparkle.”

Tan– Whether you lay out by the pool or go to a tanning bed, getting a pre-summer tan would be nice. The weather has been gorgeous lately, treat yourself to weekends by the pool- you can study there and get homework done while still getting the perfect base tan for summer.

Plan a Vacation– Put that passport to use this summer and take a vacation! Start planning it now to make it unforgettable. Don’t forget that summer isn’t all work, you need to add a little play in there too.
