Top 5 Things Not To Leave Unsaid during Summer Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

In order to be able to enjoy your summer and whatever it might bring, it’s a good idea to make a clean close to the chapter that was your school year. A bit of reflection and positive little interventions might make a world of difference. You might want to ponder upon the next golden phrases:

1.     “I am sorry” – You might place your ego as a superior power and refuse to apologize for things that in the depth of your soul you know you might have approached with a wrong streak. Apologizing for mistakes is true power and it raises you to the level of enough maturity to learn from and recognize your mistakes. Your own self and the person you apologize to will appreciate you so much more.

2.     “I want to make sure…” – Establish situations and relationships and don’t leave anything in the air. As you return for the fall, you will want to be in the clear with all people and situations; clean and straightforward as a blank piece of paper.

3.     “Thank you”—Show appreciation for everything and anything that was a positive force in your life this school year. Thank your family, your friends and your professors and anyone who showed you kindness. Thank those who taught you lessons, however inconvenient those might have been.

4.     “ I want us to keep in touch” – This phrase means a lot. It shows that you have a genuine interest in and attachment to a person and that you are willing to put in the effort to maintain your relationship.

5.     “I’ve got your back” – As summer might physically disconnect people is important to convey the fact that your people can lean on you, can call you and ask for your support.
