A Party Girl’s Guide: How To Freshen Up in 5 Minutes or Less

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Here, at Bucknell, it is no secret that we work hard and party hard(er). School takes priority. Yet, what better way to congratulate yourself on meeting the MGMT 101 deadline than a party (or a few) downtown?  It is not uncommon to be coming from the library late on a Friday night, leaving you literally 5 minutes to get ready for the pregame—the pregame that is happening in your room. Discover Her Campus Bucknell’s tips towards achieving the perfect ‘going out’ look at lightening speed.

Product Is Your Best Friend.

Oil absorbing wipes, concealer, eye makeup remover, eyeliner, and dry shampoo—gather them all.

Skin Tips: First things first—splash your face with cold water. Splashing your face with cold water is known to liven the skin, making you look more awake than you probably are. If you don’t have time or the desire to splash your face with water – you might have a lot of eye makeup on from earlier in the day—grab oil-absorbing wipes. Clean and Clear’s $4 Oil sheets are a lifesaver. Utilize an oil sheet or two, and quickly grab facial powder or BB cream. Conceal last minute flaws. Turn towards your bronzer to highlight your cheekbones and eyebrow bones. A more pronounced facial structure adds to a dramatic night look.

Eye Makeup: Eye Makeup remover, whether it’s a liquid solution or a wipe, is your answer to removing smeared mascara and eyeliner. Use makeup wipes, preferably Neutrogena’s, to touch up around the eyes before you apply more makeup. Unfortunately, our eye-makeup, for night especially, does not take us 5 minutes. Instead of removing all of your eye makeup, add a darker eye shadow shade to your creases for a more dramatic smoky eye. An additional layer of mascara is optional. To create an even more dramatic eye, add bottom eyeliner, or wing your upper eyeliner by extending slightly past the eye at an upward angle.

Hair: Two words: dry shampoo. Let’s be honest, you weren’t going to wash your hair for the night regardless of time restraints. The second you step into those downtown houses, your hair is an Afro, and that straight hairstyle is now sleeked against your sweaty head. Spray dry shampoo in the greasy spots, holding the can 6 inches from your head. Brush through and straighten over kinked pieces. Worst case, you throw your hair into a messy high pony—so Serena van der Woodsen.

Wardrobe Meltdown? We Don’t Think So.

Typically, after choosing an outfit, our rooms tend to look like a bomb went off. Your time crunch, in this scenario, is a blessing in disguise. You, simply, do not have the luxury of flipping through all articles of clothing you possess. You’ll be relieved in the morning when you don’t have to rehang 25 shirts. Grab your favorite go-to look. Let’s be honest, people can’t even remember what they did last weekend, let alone what you wore. Or, grab an all black outfit. Didn’t you hear, black is the new black?
