How to Stomach the BLUU: Creative Food Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

We are well into the school year and if you’re anything like me, the excitement of the semester has started to fade away. In fact, you may already be dreading your twice-daily meals at the BLUU and have hit a verifiable slump. Fear not! Here are some options that can switch up your food routine.

Breakfast

Let’s be honest- you can’t eat those belgian waffles every morning.

1. Looking for a healthier option? Most mornings the salad bar has fruit, granola and yogurt. Put these together and what do you get? Your own homemade parfait! Personally, I like the plain yogurt, granola and blueberries when they have them. It is both delicious and a less greasy way to start your day.

2. Every now and then I wake up with the urge to drive to McDonald’s and get an Egg McMuffin. Luckily, most mornings, the supplies to make a perfect breakfast sandwich are right at the BLUU! Go over to the counter across from the cereal, grab a bagel, search around for eggs, bacon, hash browns and sausage, put them all together and place it on the toaster. This option is more cost efficient than your drive-thru alternative, and tastes just as good.

3. The smoothie bar is the secret treasure of Market Square. There are endless varieties of combinations, both sweet and healthy. Play around and find what tastes good to you!

Main Course

Are you sick of the same grilled chicken and vegetables every day? Try out a few of these options to spice up your lunch and dinner.

1. It almost seems like every other day there is a taco bar at one or more stations of the BLUU. Take advantage of all of the great toppings and make a taco salad! Get the meat, salsa, and veggies at Shuffles, the greens at the salad bar and mix in anything else they have that looks good.

2. Spice up your normal wrap by incorporating items from other lines. My favorite is a chicken and lettuce wrap; ask to leave the wrap open, go to the salad line and get Caesar dressing and Parmesan and viola, you have a chicken Caesar wrap!

3. This is a true beauty I saw someone make- get pita from the fancy salad line, then walk around and get all of the toppings you want from the different lines, and put your flat bread in the toaster. This requires some dedication, but it is totally worth it.

Dessert

While the dessert bar is always nice, every now and then you need something new to satisfy your sweet tooth.

1. Can’t make it to Sweet Sammie’s? Throw together an ice cream sandwich with all the tools at your disposal!

2. Make a milkshake at the smoothie bar! Put ice cream in the cup and ask them to mix it with milk. It’s absolutely delicious.

3. Just looking for a sweet drink to finish your meal? Make a makeshift caramel coffee! Line your cup in the caramel syrup they have by the ice cream, and fill your cup with coffee and lots of sugar. You will get the caffeine and sugar rush that goes with!

I hope some of these creative ideas help you stomach the BLUU this upcoming year. If not, that’s what Campus Cash is for!
