Why did you choose to become a 101 Week guide?Â
Jayme: To help welcome first year students. I’ve been part of 101 Week in some shape or form since first year. I’ve been a 101er to a guide to VP social, and now a guide again.
Katharine: Since the beginning of high school I’ve been heavily involved in high-energy and leadership activities of all kinds, so it only felt natural to continue that into university as well.
Katharine, is this your first time as a 101 Week guide?Â
Katharine: Yes!
What is your favourite part of being a 101 Week guide?Â
Jayme: Meeting new people!
Katharine: Getting first years hyped for university in general. It’s a million times better than high school and I want them to feel that from the get-go.Â
What do you usually recommend first year students so they make the most of their university experience?
Katharine: Get involved as much as you can, go out to as many events (not just 101 Week events) as you can, talk to as many people as you can… Put yourself out there! There are friends to be made and fun to be had absolutely everywhere you look. Have fun and don’t take anything too seriously (except your schooling), especially yourself.
How are you involved on campus?Â
Jayme: I’m an active member of Alpha Phi.Â
Katharine: Besides being an Arts 101 Week guide, I am a current active member and acting VP Campus Affairs for Alpha Phi Women’s Fraternity, as well as the current secretary of the University of Ottawa Greek Council.Â
Finally what is your favourite service offered on campus?Â
Katharine: The uOttawa health services are so incredibly convenient when you’re as accident prone as I am.
Jayme: Sport services offered on campus, such as Zumba and Yoga classes offered through the gym.Â
