No makeup. What does that mean to you? I’m not talking about a few dabs of concealer and mascara. Oh, and no light coats of blush or bronzer to give your face color. I’m talking about a bare face with zip, zero, nada.

For most girls, the only time this will ever occur is when going to bed and when they first wake up. The thought of a bare face any other time of day is unsettling for many. I see this as an issue. There are numerous articles that attempt to be a solution by giving girls a “How To” on successfully rocking a makeup-free look. The problem is that most of the time they are just that: makeup-free “looks”. These articles normally go along the lines of instructing to moisturize, conceal the under eye area, brush some blush ever so lightly on the apples of your cheeks, mascara, and a natural lip color or lip balm.

Articles like the ones mentioned above tell girls that putting the essentials on their faces is basically not wearing makeup at all. In comparison to many girls’ everyday makeup routines, using just 2-5 products can most definitely make it feel as though we are not wearing anything. I am all for makeup. I love it! I thrive on trying new dramatic styles and just feeling a little extra beautiful. I also live off all of these so-called makeup-free routines for my day-to-day life.

What we all need to remember is that the face underneath, the one with absolutely nothing on it, is more than beautiful and deserves to be embraced. It is hard to be comfortable in your own skin with nothing to cover up insecurities, there’s nothing around that. However, instead of lying to ourselves about what’s natural and what’s not, we need to learn that from time to time we have to be happy with what’s truly ours. None of us were born with photoshopped faces and bounds of makeup caked on. Make yourself believe that those uneven skin tones, blemishes, short lashes, and unlined lids are worth loving because they are.

It’s surely not an overnight process. If you struggle with it, try and find ways to make it better. Instead of buying yet another concealer, shift your focus to something that will actually improve the natural state of your facial features. There are mutipurpose moisturizers, blemish treatments, eyelash growth serums and other products that will enhance parts of your face over time. Aim towards finding a solution to the insecurities on your face instead of covering them up day in and day out.

Have fun putting on that full-face and wearing the natural look with confidence. Just don’t forget to love what’s underneath all of the makeup.

HCXO!
