Meet Zoe Haber, a second year Criminology and Dimensions in Leadership major, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who has a passion for fitness and healthy eating.  In just three months she has been able to transform her body, by changing her lifestyle, while being active and motivated.  Read more about her to learn some healthy living tricks!

How do you motivate yourself to workout every day?I’m constantly going back on my Facebook and Instagram and looking at old pictures of myself from just a few months ago.  Seeing the progress that I have made motivates me to continue my journey.  Eating healthy and working out has completely changed my outlook on life! Its made me a happier person, more energetic and more outgoing.  I’m even excited to choose my outfit for the day, as I’m no longer shy — I like showing off now! I know that I’m not perfect, and I still have progress to make, but everyday is a day that I feel better about myself.

What is your favourite part of the Western gym?My favourite part of the Western gym is how motivated everyone else is! I love seeing that I go to such a fit, health – friendly school, where you can see everyone from the first years to the profs.  It makes me feel as though I’m apart of a huge community, where everyone helps each other, and pushes them to do the best that they can.  I never feel nervous asking someone from help or advice, and everyone is so encouraging — except for the people who are always competing with you on the treadmills (even though that usually just makes me run faster!)

And whats your biggest pet peeve at it?My biggest peeve is when I FINALLY find a locker, after what seems like hours of searching for one, and the next people who walk into the change room take the ones right beside mine, so that I have absolutely NO room. I feel bad constantly nudging them! I also must go to the gym at the busiest time because there never seems to be any treadmills available. What’s worse is when the only one left open is being occupied by someone else’s water bottle.

You just moved into your first house, whats been the most exciting part of living on your own so far?Being able to get three fish tanks, and therefore being able to get three new best friends (besides my roommates, of course!).  I have three beta fish, named Archie, Pablo and Ralph (aka Ralphie) who I just adopted.  All of first year, I missed my cats and dog SO much, that its great to have pets again.  The fish even have their own unique little personalities – I’ve trained Archie so that he comes up to me for ‘kissies’ — he’s just the cutest thing.

What are your favourite cheat day foods?Costco french fries, a crispy chicken burger from basically anywhere, but obviously the Spoke would be my first choice, and a Spoke bagel is my ultimate cheat food (even though I used to eat one practically every day last year!). Its so tempting seeing and smelling the Spoke while I’m at school – I’m so thankful for the long lines, as they’re the best deterrent!

Whats one healthy recipe that you would tell EVERYONE to try?My zucchini lasagna is my ultimate go – to when I’m craving pasta, cheese, sauce and everything that I really shouldn’t be eating.  You can’t even tell that you’re substituted zucchini for the pasta. I would recommend that everyone get a spiralizer so that you can turn your zucchini into noodles, so that even after you have five plates of it, you won’t feel guilty!
