It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in NYC theaters. As finals (and snow/study days) approach you’re probably looking for some cool, festive shows to catch.
For an old classic, see A Christmas Carol at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ. A short 45min drive from Hofstra and you can catch this holiday classic.
For something a little less conventional, you can see ELF: The Broadway Musical at the Theater At Madison Square Garden. Based on the treasured holiday classic starring Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell, this show first premiered on Broadway in 2010, and has since been welcomed into the canon of classic Christmas hits. Catch this hit at Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ.
You could also catch a ballet classic. New York City Ballet’s The Nutcracker will be at the David H Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. “The Balanchine Nutcracker, which had it’s premiere at New York City Center on Feb. 2, 1954, is now older than any member of its onstage cast (except an occasional Drosselmeier) and most of the audience.” For an edgy experience see Company XIV’s Nutcracker Rouge, a burlesque twist on the classic tale.
