HC: For those who are unfamiliar with Panhellenic Council, can you explain what it is?
MB: The Panhellenic Council is an organization that is governed by the National Panhellenic Conference, which is the umbrella organization that oversees 26 national sororities. The Panhellenic Council assures that all NPC guidelines are being followed, makes sure that recruitment runs smoothly, advocates for positive relationships between its member sororities, and much more. As of Spring 2016, there will be 10 Panhellenic sororities on UNCW’s campus.
HC: What was your initial reason for applying to be the Vice President of Finance for the Panhellenic Council?
MB: I applied for the Panhellenic Council so that I could be more involved in the Panhellenic Community. I love all of the friendships I have made within Chi Omega; however, I think it is very important to build relationships with those outside of your own organization.
HC: Can you explain the application process and what it consisted of?
MB: To apply for the Panhellenic Council, you indicate which positions that you’re interested in on your application, and you answer a few questions regarding why you are interested and what you hope to accomplish. The second stage of the application process is an in-person interview with the outgoing Executive Board where they ask questions specific to the positions you applied for. The new slate is announced at the following Panhellenic meeting.
HC: When will your responsibilities officially begin? And what will your position entail?
MB: I will start my position of VP of Finance next semester. My responsibilities include supervising the finances of the UNCW Panhellenic Association, keeping up to date financial records, preparing an annual budget, receiving payments to the Panhellenic Association, paying dues to the NPC, and other exciting financial duties!
HC: What are you most looking forward to as VP of Finance as well as being part of Panhellenic Council?
MB: I am most excited for working with women of other sororities and also for being a Gamma Chi during fall formal recruitment. It will be hard to leave my own sorority and disaffiliate, but I’m really looking forward to helping potential new members find their homes!
