Calm down.

Your worst breakouts usually arrive when you’re stressed out. Maybe you have projects due soon, exams to study for and you feel overwhelmed. As soon as you feel your breakout coming through, calm down and whatever you do, don’t touch it. Touching your breakout, especially with unclean hands, will only irritate the beast. So just calm down and follow these steps.

Wash:

When it comes to treating the beast, wash your hands and your face. Once that’s done, avoid the urge to touch the affected area and moisturize your face with an oil-free moisturizer or your day-to-day moisturizer that won’t clog your pores. Make sure you’re washing your hands before washing your face and applying makeup. Washing will allow your skin to breathe by removing all the dirt and oil that has built up throughout the day. Always remove your makeup at the end of the day, no matter how tired you are.

To prevent future acne, wash your pillow cases regularly and make sure your washcloths are also clean when you use them.

Spot treatment:

Depending on the severity of the pimple that is invading you face, you might need to use a spot treatment to help you combat the pimple. Find one that won’t be too harsh on your skin and that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils.

Repair:

Once your breakout begins to disappear, you should start treating the affected skin for scars. If your skin is like mine, pimples love to leave mementos. Pimple scaring isn’t pleasant because as time goes by, they can turn into craters. Try finding a lightweight scar cream so you don’t cause anymore breakouts.

Sanitize:

Clean your makeup brushes and tools so that you don’t risk another breakout.

Smile:

The worst is over. You can relax. Just remember to wash your face regularly, remover your makeup and don’t touch your face with dirty hands.
