Love Is the Day After Valentines Day: Couple Profiles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

Even though Valentine’s Day is the holiday to celebrate love; love should be celebrated every day. Real love is more than chocolate hearts and teddy bears; real love is Sunday mornings, chasing dreams, takeout boxes, late night flights, singing badly, messy kitchens, tired voices, and everything in between. Real love happens after Valentine’s Day. In the spirit of the season, I talked to two of my favorite couples that  I thought could vouch for this. Their love exists every second of every day, no matter what, for a plethora of reasons, and I asked them to try their best to share a few.

Kelly and Pat have been together for over four years, and I had to know how they knew they loved each other. Here’s a little peek into what their everyday, extraordinary love means to them.

Kelly:  “As for what I like about Pat… I love how he makes me feel. I feel like he would care for me through thick and the thin. He makes me feel beautiful, he makes me feel comfortable, and loved. I also love his quirks that only I know. Some of his habits he has makes me laugh and smile. I love his caring attitude and compassion towards everyone around him! His carefree attitude is easy to be around and makes me feel relaxed.

As for what I like to do with him…. Really anything! Just being around him. Some of my favorite things are when we go out to lunch or coffee, when we go on walks, or just sit and visit somewhere. We are also a goofy couple, so the moments when we dance around, laugh at each other, or listen to songs we found together are some of the highlights of my day.

And as for falling in love… I guess I don’t know a specific moment of when it clicked for me. I always thought he was cute, but I didn’t know him very well at the beginning of our relationship. But I did realize that as I spent more and more time with him, we became really close and I got to know more about him. It was his personality that I adore and love. He is my best friend, my boyfriend, and honestly my rock. It sounds ridiculous coming from younger people, but it just feels right when he says ‘I love you.’”

Pat: “I love how kind she is and caring toward other people. One of my favorite things about her is how the little things can make her day and make her smile. We love to listen to music together, we love to dance silly together, and we love to try new food together. Honestly whatever it is that we are doing is better when we are together. That’s probably part of how I knew that I loved her, the fact that any time during the day, I would rather her be with me. Along with that she is the only person I always feel truly comfortable with as myself. She has made me better throughout the years that we have been together and I don’t know where I’d be without her.”

Keara and JT have been together for over two years, and I asked them what they love most about each other. These two have some of the most outstanding personalities I’ve ever encountered, so it makes sense why they fell in love in the first place, but I had to know a few details as to what they loved most.

Keara: “I think that my favorite quality that Jordan has is his kindness towards others. He is always making sure that everyone else is ok before worrying about himself. He always puts others before him. I always catch myself smiling when I witness him opening doors for women. He always lets them go ahead of him.”

JT: “My favorite thing about Keara is that she is really good at all the things I am bad at. I can always count on her to help me out when I need her and I pretty much need her all the time. Oh also she’s really pretty :)”

Lauren is a senior at the University of Wyoming pursuing a degree in Marketing. She is the Founding Campus Correspondent of Her Campus at the University of Wyoming, and could not be more in love with her staff and the Her Campus community at large. This California native grew up playing on the beaches of San Diego; and loved the water so much that she is currently a captain of the Women's Swim & Dive Team at UW. She also currently serves as the Content & Copywriting Intern at Wyoming's fastest-growing startup, Bright Agrotech. She feels fortunate to be surrounded by incredible people every day of her busy life, and to live in a world where Ben & Jerry's Phish Food, dachshunds, naps and J.K. Rowling exist. In the future she hopes to land a career at a magazine (think Miranda Priestly, minus the Devil, double the Prada), and if you ask her who her favorite politician is, she will say Leslie Knope.
