Country music is growing in popularity. If you’re still not convinced that country music isn’t just for people who enjoy listening to songs about beer, hunting, and heartbreak (although, who doesn’t like a good song about heartbreak?), listen to these!

1. Next Boyfriend by Lauren Alaina

Okay let’s be real. Who hasn’t walked into a bar (a party, a classroom, etc.) and started making up a story in your head about how that really good looking guy was going to be your next bae? Don’t deny it. It happens.

2. Girl Crush by Little Big Town

We all know this feeling. Being so incredibly jealous of the girl who took your dream man away. You see all of the amazing qualities in her, and you just want to BE HER. Little Big Town kind of takes it to the extreme but we get it.

3. House Party by Sam Hunt (Along with his entire album…seriously)

Ever have one of those nights when you really don’t want to go out, but you also don’t want to sit at home by yourself all night? Sam Hunt has the answer. If only all guys were as understanding and accommodating as him.

4. Heartbeat by Carrie Underwood (feat. Sam Hunt)

This is Carrie Underwood’s newest hit. It has Sam Hunt in the background, and it’s all about spending some quality alone time with your man. College parties and the bar scene can be fun, but when you’re in a relationship, sometimes you just want to be with him.

5. Die a Happy Man by Thomas Rett

This song is every girls dream. The way he sings about his woman is the way we want our man to think of us. Relationship goals right here.

6. Nothing Like You by Dan and Shay

We are all unique, ladies. Dan and Shay get that. And in this song, they show how appreciative they are of all of us who are a little bit quirky.

7. 21 by Hunter Hayes

The perfect song to listen to when it’s your 21st birthday! Or when you’re pretending it’s your 21st birthday all over again. You can for sure pre-game to this song and have a blast.

8. Bartender by Lady Antebellum

Okay so this song might be about heartbreak. But it’s not slow and depressing, it’s about drinking your troubles away at a girls’ night! We’ve all been there, why not listen to a song about it?

9. Stay a Little Longer by Brothers Osborne

If this song doesn’t make you want to sing along, there may be something wrong with your hearing. With our current hookup culture overwhelming many of us twenty somethings, Brothers Osborne takes that problem and adds a twist to it: The guy is falling for the girl. When does that ever happen? It’s nice to dream though.

10. Snapback by Old Dominion

And, finally, the bad boy song. I don’t know if it’s just me, but we’ve all had that guy who has convinced us to get involved with him even though it is a very, very bad idea. This is what I think of when listening to this song. “What would happen if you got with me?” I don’t know but I think I want to find out…

All of these songs listed here are proof that there is more to country music than you may think! They are the perfect examples of how music can be representative of our lives. What girl hasn’t been in one of these situations that were put into lyrics and a wonderful melody by these artists? So get on YouTube, or iTunes, or Spotify and start listening before you judge!

Hey hey hey. I'm Sarah and I'm a psychology major and writing minor at Stony Brook University, and will be graduating December 2016 (I hope). My passions are reading books that make me cry, writing about anything that inspires me (including my dog), and binge watching Netflix. I'm the type of girl who you can go to for advice. I'm always willing to listen and often find that other people's stories help me understand my own!
