As much as I love having long hair, at times it can be a serious pain in the ass to maintain/ get through the day without some sort of hair related issue.

One: Brushing

I have a serious amount of envy towards people who can get up, brush their hair in 5 minutes and leave. Once I’ve finally found a good brush that doesn’t rip my hair/ be ripped by my hair, it takes me a good 20 minutes just to get through the tangles even if it’s been tied up overnight so styling doesn’t really happen for me (although one perk of having long hair is you can get away with just letting it do it’s flowy magic). It takes even longer when I’ve washed my hair; I have been late sooo many times because of this.

Two: Washing

On the subject, washing your hair becomes a bit of a workout as well as a financial drain. I get through a ridiculous amount of shampoo and conditioner, and by the time I make sure everything is lathered and rinsed out, I feel like I can skip arm day (well I would if I actually went to the gym…)

Three: Swimming

Swimming is never easy with long hair. If you can fit it all into a swimming cap, well done. If not, it really gets in the way even in a bobble or bun as it tends to get forced out. Don’t even get me started on the chlorine!

Four: Buttons

This one can be summed up pretty quickly; long hair + getting caught in a button= ouch. More than once I haven’t noticed it happening, taken my jacket off and had it literally hanging by my hair as I attempt to find somebody to help me…

Five: Children

I love children, I really do. But they also love pulling on long hair, toddlers especially. I used to volunteer for Rainbows and one once decided to try and swing off my plait like Tarzan. Never again.

Six: Wind.

The wind is annoying enough as it is, but if it attacks me when my hair is down everything just becomes a ginger blur. Then when I finally find refuge, I look something like this:

Seven: Haircuts.

Apparently you should get your hair cut every 6 weeks, however I go about twice a year. Although most hairdressers love people with long hair, there is always the fear that they will cut it was shorter than you want even if just asking for a trim; I once asked for a couple of inches off and ended up with a bob. Never again.

Eight: Eating

Kind of gross, and not helped by the fact I am super clumsy, but I genuinely struggle to go through a meal without getting some sort of food in my hair. Either I drop something, or lean slightly forward and boom it’s covered in sauce. Classy. I need to take some lessons from these little guys!

Nine: Bobbles/clips

Tying long hair up is a great way to avoid a lot of the problems here, and is great when it’s windy; however, I require about 5-7 bobbles to tie it up and keep it there. As most people who use them will no, they tend to go AWOL a lot of the time and if I make do with only two or three, halfway through the day I end up with some sort of droopy half and half thing going on.

Ten:

All of these issues aside, it is 100% worth it to be fabulous like Rapunzel.
