October has arrived and it is time to think pink!
Now I know what you’re thinking, “It’s October the colors should be orange and black!” Welp, I hate to break it to you honey but October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month so get your pink ready.
The campaign is to not only help increase the awareness of the disease for women but men as well.
Here are some ways to be aware and to prevent yourself from the cancerous disease.
- Ask About Your Family History
If someone in your family was diagnosed with breast cancer there is a possibility that you may be at risk with developing the disease.
2. Limit Your Alcohol Consumption
I’m not saying you can’t go out to your local bar and not drink your favorite martini. But try not to binge drink. According to breastcancer.org , alcohol can increase the levels of estrogen and other hormones associated with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Women who have at least three drinks a week are at risk by 15% than those who do not drink at all.
3. Stay in Shape
Yes I know you don’t want to be all sweaty and nasty, but it’s for your own good. Women who are overweight are increasing their chances of developing breast cancer. The more fat cells, the more estrogen is being created in the body. For starters you can start by changing your diet and taking it slow by walking instead of running.
4. Get Tested
Women who are 40 and up should get a mammogram yearly. However, you can do self-breast exams at home. You can do the exam in the shower, on the bed, and in front of the mirror. Just take a look at the image below and save your tatas!
