Mascara is a great beauty product, in my opinion! It is the one product that can make a small difference to your look without entirely altering your face. On most days, I keep my makeup routine simple with some BB cream, tinted lip balm, and mascara. This routine works so well because it is just enough makeup to demonstrate the effort you put into getting ready that morning, but it is also not overbearing and will definitely allow you to look and feel like yourself. However, different mascaras work better for different people. I will typically opt for using two or three different mascaras at once to give my lashes a variety of looks, but one is more than enough when you find the perfect wand to work with your lashes. In last week’s article, Attaining the Perfect Five-Minute Face, I mentioned I would revisit the topic of which mascara to use for different purposes; here is a quick guide for your reference! (Yes, I have recommended some of these in prior articles! This just proves I believe in the products, though).

1. If your eyelashes are naturally straight, you should purchase a mascara wand that is curved so that it will serve to curl your lashes upwards. Try stila’s Huge Extreme Lash Mascara or the Too Faced Size Queen Mascara for a more curly effect.

2. If you feel your eyelashes are sparse and lack volume, look for a thicker wand that will add more density to the lashes. A great one for this purpose is Urban Decay’s Perversion. This is absolutely one of my personal favorites. It gets the job done! I also like tarte’s Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara for this.

3. Finally, sometimes all one really needs is a little extra length. For this, you want a wand with a bit of a shape to it; that means it should be swiveled, rounded, or something along those lines. Check out the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara–which is fun and easy to work with due to its convenient pear-like shape–or the bareMinerals Revamped Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara (it also adds volume, as is mentioned in the name, but works incredibly well for lengthening, as well).

The key is to know what kind of eyelashes you’re working with, and once you figure that out, the sky is your limit!
