As they say, you are what you “sip.” Alone, topical skin care products aren’t the key to achieving perfect skin, because how we nourish our bodies is an equally important component. Although there are many superfoods out there to maintain your youthful complexion, there are drinks you can add into your diet for good skin too – an exceptional way to drink your way to glowing skin. This is a Hollywood secret that you’ll want to steal. Add these few drinks into your diet, and get ready to have the prettiest skin of your life.
Below is a breakdown of the chosen drinks and the everyday regimen:
Water
Drinking water is beneficial for overall health, and can hydrate our complexions. Water keeps our skin looking fresh and plump, creating a healthy glow. It’s important to drink at least eight glasses of water throughout the day, since the water we drink doesn’t go into our skin immediately. It gets absorbed in the bloodstream and is then filtered out- it’s a long process. Another good way to add extra hydration to your skin cells is to use a toner or a water-based peptide serum directly on the skin. You can never be too hydrated.
Green Juice
Yes, kale is a trendy food right now, but it actually has wonderful vitamins that our skin needs. Vitamin A encourages healthy skin cell production and stimulates fibroblasts (developing tissue that keeps skin firm). Vitamin C and copper promote collagen synthesis, and are an antioxidants with healing properties. Try drinking a green juice every morning for breakfast. Maybe add some apple, coconut water and ginger- I promise you won’t taste any kale!
Soy Milk
Soy is especially rich in proteins, fiber, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. It protects collagen and keeps skin looking youthful. Additionally, soy milk can reduce discolored or residual spots on our skin’s complexion. In addition with the green juice, try a delicious latte with soy milk sometime in the morning. What better way to get energy from the coffee while improving your skin too – it’s a win, win!
Green Tea
Green tea has been used in China for centuries, and today is consumed in most parts of the world. Drinking two cups in the afternoon can enhance and improve skin health. The anti-inflammatory property of green tea reduces inflammation levels, flushes out toxins from the skin, heals acne scars, and decreases redness in the skin. This antioxidant fights free radicals and protects the skin from UV radiation.
Pomegranate Juice
Although pomegranate juice is usually seen during the winter holiday season, your skin will thank you if you drink it often, especially in the evening. Pomegranate fruit benefits the skin because of its vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and copper content. Each of these properties assists the skin by protecting from sun exposure and damage, regulating inflammation, synthesizing collagen, regulating the growth of cells and strengthening skin tissue. Pomegranate juice contains a larger amount of antioxidants than green tea. Start sipping!
Infused Cucumber Water
You don’t have be in a spa in order to enjoy a refreshing glass of cucumber water. Instead, many are making this easy drink at home. Drinking water infused with chopped cucumber pieces before bed is the last hydration our bodies get before waking up the next morning. Cucumbers are 90 percent water-based, and are filled with potassium and magnesium. The vegetable decreases inflammation, and balances alkaline and pH levels. Instead of eating them alone, placing cucumbers into water is an excellent way to relax, replenish our bodies and enjoy a great drink.
