Don’t get me wrong, each day is a blessing and should be filled with joy and gratitude. But somehow, there just seems to be twelve thousand different emotions that we feel within a twenty-four-hour period. How can this be, you ask. The answer lies in a mixture of our human makeup and the powerful effects of overthinking. These are the five reigning emotions that seem to creep their way into our lives on a daily basis.
1.Tired/Dead
As college students, we can all relate to this one. We are stuck in a constant sleepy state from the time we wake up to the time we’re ready to hit the hay again. Let’s admit it, we are either sitting in a large lecture hall where no one notices our nodding off, or napping in a cubicle in the library (which seems to be our only place of solitude).
2. Joy
When you finally get slightly lifted out of your sleepy fog, you may feel a tinge of energy in your body which can even lead to joy. This is when you GET THINGS DONE. This may be the only time of the day when you feel energized enough to get work done without hating every part of your life.
3. Sorrow
After a slight taste of joy, you’re inevitably going to go crashing down from your high into a pit of sadness. This may sound dramatic, but it’s true. The only thing that sounds remotely enjoyable is lying in your bed with a gallon of ice cream.
4. Contentment
You’ve finally come to realize that not every part of your day will be enjoyable. You’ve come to terms with this fact. You are finally feeling relaxed and at ease with your present state. You may not be fully motivated, but you know you have to be and can push through anyway.
5. Gratitude
At the end of the day, you can only be thankful for your life. You realize that you have awesome family and friends, and sometimes strangers may let you experience joy by paying for your coffee at Starbucks. You can go to bed knowing you’ve experienced a full day.
Emotions are a strange. But it’s a part of life we all experience. Confronting these emotions can sometimes be a struggle; but when you truly embrace it, you will realize it’s just a blessing in disguise. Learn to love each day, and start it with an optimistic attitude. Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re only human.
