Many of you might be wondering how you can make a difference this holiday season. There’s something about these chilly months that make us want to take action in the community and do right by others! You might have seen some advertisements for Her Campus Emmanuel’s upcoming Terrarium Building Night that’s being held in the Muddy River Cafe tonight, Nov. 17 at 7:30pm. This event is being held to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank located in Southie, and we are so excited to have the opportunity to represent them in our campus’ community! So, for those of you who are going to the event and have already made your donation, here’s some information on where your money is going!
The Greater Boston Food Bank was founded in 1974 by a woman named Kip Tiernan, a social justice activist who graduated from the Boston Conservatory. The Greater Boston Food bank is now one of the largest hunger relief programs in the country, feeding over 90,000 people every week! Her Campus Emmanuel is collecting cash donations for the food bank – this isn’t just your regular, old-fashioned can drive… The Greater Boston Food Bank has the ability to stretch a single dollar into three nutritious meals for families in need! We chose to support the Greater Boston Food Bank not only because they have a strong female leader, but because of their ability to reach out to communities in need. Our contribution means a lot to those communities!
If all 50 seats are filled at this event, at a minimum of a $5 donation to the Food Bank, we will raise $250 for the organization and in turn provide 750 meals for those in need during the holiday season! We are so incredibly pleased to be working with such an exceptional organization, and we hope that our community will help us go above and beyond for the cause! If you’re interested in making an independant donation, you can do so at www.gbfb.org.
We hope to see you at the event, and remember to keep an eye out for more ways to give through HCE!
