It’s that time of year again: time to update your Christmas playlist! Here are some top picks from the Her Campus at Emmanuel team…

Eimile Bowden’s Pick: “Peace on Earth/ Little Drummer Boy”

Why I Like It: This is easily my favorite Christmas song. I can even listen to this song when it’s not Christmas because of its year round relevance. It’s meaningful, easy to sing along to, and it has David Bowie. I mean… come on.

Hannah Lynam’s Pick: “Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)”

Why I Like It: Definitely not one of your traditional Christmas songs! This song by the Pogues is one of those ironic tunes that will get stuck in your head for a couple days. Using Irish tunes and realism this song is not the most pleasant of Christmas songs but it is definitely a crowd pleaser. I love it the humor of the song and the fact that it was also featured in the film P.S. I Love You! Highly recommend when you need a good laugh!

Liz Racine’s Pick: “O Come All Ye Faithful”

Why I Like It: I grew up singing in a church choir every Christmas Eve, and this was one of the classics we sang every year. Listening to it always bring back those memories, plus the harmonies are beautiful. I love hearing the classic organ-accompanied version, but I’ve recently discovered the Pentatonix version and I love it just as much!

Emily Tessier’s Pick: “Carol of the Bells”

Why I Like It: My high school theatre department would sing Christmas Carols every year, and that song was my favorite one to sing. But I also love the Transiberian Orchestra version.

Autumn Dube’s Pick: “Mistletoe”

Why I Like It: Of course Justin Bieber knows how to make a girl swoon over a Christmas song. Aside from my love for him, this song is perfect for this time of year. It makes you want to snuggle up and wish for snow (& possibly daydream about Bieber kissing you under mistletoe). It’s an overall feel good song that is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Lauren Cullinane’s Pick: “The Christmas Shoes”

Why I Like It: My mom and I really enjoy this song, so it holds a special place in my heart. It isn’t the typical upbeat Christmas song, and I usually end up in tears whenever I listen to it, but I love its message. It reminds you to cherish your loved ones because they are the greatest gift to have, especially come the holidays. It also reminds you that Christmas is the season of giving, which I think everyone needs to be reminded of every once in awhile. A little bonus: Rob Lowe is featured in this music video!

Jessica Tartaglio’s Pick: “Frosty the Snowman”

Why I Like It: I like this because  I used to watch the movies about Frosty when I was younger and i love snow during the Christmas season.  This song reminds me of how I used to always build a snowman when I was little and it just brings back childhood memories.

Gianna Mangiarelli’s PIck: “What Christmas Means To Me” by Stevie Wonder

Why I Like It: I love this song because I am a huge fan of Stevie Wonder, and this song pairs all the things I love about Christmas with Stevie Wonder’s signature style.

Temma Beaudreau’s PIck: “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Frank Sinatra

Why I Like It: I have always had a love for the classic Christmas songs. This song talks about the warm feelings and light heartedness the holiday season brings, and that is something I look forward to all year long. There are many versions, but Frank Sinatra’s rich voice is my absolute favorite on this song.

Christina Listro’s Pick: “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole

Why I Like It: When I hear this song, I know for a fact that I am in the Christmas season. I love music from the 50’s in general and this sentimental song brings me back through all of the emotions and events of Christmases past.

Sammy Martin’s Pick: “All I Want for Christmas Is You”

Why I Like It: This one just feels like such a classic. It’s not Christmas without a little Mariah Carey blasting and everyone singing along. Whenever I hear that opening xylophone, I immediately start preparing myself to let that last note fly!

Happy listening! HCXO!
