Winter Stress Everyone in Minnesota Deals With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Winter is probably a lot of people’s least favorite season if you are living in the wonderful state of Minnesota. Mainly because it gets below zero and snows… A LOT. Here is a list of some of the top stressors the frigid season brings us.

Going to Bed & Getting out of Bed

The fact that is gets dark around 4:00 P.M. and You haven’t eaten dinner yet, but you feel like its past your bedtime. Like what are you supposed to do at this time?

Or, in the morning, when you have your 8:00 A.M., it’s freezing outside and your bed is so warm. Plus it is barely sunny out and you won’t get any Vitamin D. To skip or not to skip?

Dry Skin and Face

So you decided to get up and get ready. Only to realize your skin is literally falling off because it’s so dry. You instantly put on lotion and it’s gone because your skin just soaked it all up. Plus, as soon as you decide to go outside, your entire face feels like a rock because of all the lotion you put on is GONE and the wind is attacking your face.

Starting Your Car and Scraping the Snow Off

Living off campus can be tough because you have to drive to school, especially if you live downtown because there is no avoiding driving up one of the hills. It is 15 minutes before you have to leave and you have to go outside and start your car just to walk right back inside to wait for it to warm up. You decide its time to go and then you have to wipe off your entire car before you can go anywhere because there’s ice on your windshield. As you are driving all day, your windshield is dirty, like always dirty.

Road and Sidewalk Conditions

Ice, sleet and snow… all of these things should not be on the road, but in winter they are. You must plan extra time to walk to class because all of these things will slow you down on the way. If you happen to slip on ice, lucky you because you ALWAYS feel so stupid trying not to fall.

The Gym

As if it wasn’t hard enough to go when it’s nice out because you wanted to enjoy the weather, now you are unable to do anything outside so you have to force yourself to the gym. You decide to go but can’t wear shorts because you realize it’s too cold out and you’re too pale. The things we do for a spring break bod.

Heat Bills

Broke college students really look forward to this. The heat bill only goes up from month to month. You don’t even change your thermoset but you end up paying twice as much as the month before. You can’t believe you ever complained about not having Air Conditioning.

Holidays

Another thing broke college kids have to look forward to is the holidays. You want to get everyone you love the most amazing gift but have less than $5 to spend on each person. How can you possibly get them the best gift with a couple of dollars? “Sorry, maybe next year?”

Immune Systems

Being away from home, being sick and not having anyone to take care of you has to be in the top worst things ever. You are trying to make it to every class, but literally can’t because your body is telling you no, stay in bed, you are sick. And it doesn’t get any better the deeper into winter we get.

There is no stopping this horrid weather in Minnesota, so we just need to deal with it.
