An Open Letter to End-of-Semester Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Dear End-of-Semester Me,

Look at you! You did it! You’re almost done with another semester of school: another semester of essays and tests, another semester of clubs and activities, another semester of all-nighters and drama with boys and friends! I am so proud of you! But you’re not quite done yet. Look, I know how you’re feeling; just a few months ago I was you. You’re exhausted and you’re #donewiththissemester. Except you’re not done, now comes the hard part, pushing through to the end. You didn’t handle that all too well last semester, instead of getting sh*t done, you stressed about needing to get sh*t done and then failed to actually get anything done, but this semester is different and I am here to remind you of all the promises you made yourself when you were me!

First things first: school. I hope you haven’t flaked on your studies for Netflix. I know it’s great, and I’m sure you’ve probably moved on from “Once Upon a Time” to something else at this point (cheers to you, hope the show was as good as it is right now!) but you need to remember school comes first and the end of the semester is the most important time to buckle down and focus. I know you can do it because I’m doing it right now, heck I haven’t watched our show in three days which very impressive if you ask me. So power through End-of-Semester Me! It’s sure to pay off in the end!

Now on to the next promise, how’s that workout regimen going? It’s kicking my butt at the moment, but I guess that’s what I get for spending winter break on the couch eating chocolate orange balls and Christmas cookies. I trust that at this point you’re able to actually complete the workout instead of lying on the ground wheezing while the timer continues to run out. I bet you’re feeling healthy and happy which is really so important. I hope you’ve also kept up with the plan to eat healthy and stop spending so much money on chocolate and chips and salsa. I know I’m making that rosemary chicken tonight, so I trust that you’re making sure to avoid eating out and doing both us and our wallet a favor.

I know you’re stressed, but if you’ve kept up with everything then I’m sure you are much more prepared to finish this year strong, unlike last semester’s End-of-Semester Me… boy was she a mess… Anyways! Keep at it End-of-Semester Me. You’re doing great, keep up the good work, and hey — Have fun on your study abroad trip! I’m sure I’ve worked out all those details by now, right?

With lots of love,

Beginning-of-Semester Me
