I Tried Feather Eyebrows On My Roommate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

So recently I was going through facebook and I found this lovely picture.

These are feather eyebrows. They are the newest makeup trend courtesy of Instagram. The trend was started by Stella Sironen, a makeup artist from Finland. To give yourself feather eyebrows, you take a gluestick (yes, like the ones you used in kindergarten) and part your eyebrows with it. There are already videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to create this look, so I decided to try it. Then I realized that my eyebrow hairs were too short for this technique, so I coaxed my roommate into letting me try it out on her.

Before I actually did the eyebrows, I did my roommate’s eye makeup. I wanted it to match the photo above. I noticed that on photos for feather eyebrows many people like doing bold eye makeup looks using tropical colors. I think my favorite part of feather eyebrows is not the actual brows, but the excuse to wear striking eye makeup.

If you want to give yourself feather eyebrows, you need to have some length in your brows. So maybe wait before you get your next waxing appointment. I used a Q-tip to apply the glue to my friend’s eyebrows. Gluesticks are non-toxic and are washable, so there is no need to worry about safety or losing your brow hair (my roommate washed off all the glue with a makeup wipe). It was pretty hard to part the hairs. You also need to use a lot of glue to get the hairs to stick, so don’t be shy when applying this stuff. I could not make it look exactly like the original photo, but I was still pleased with the results.

Again, I couldn’t really get the eyebrows to part, but it’s still is a bold look. If you do try this look, I also suggest using mascara or some item to lengthen your eyelashes. I don’t think I’m brave enough to go outside with this look, but if you have more courage than I do and are trying to make a statement, this definitely is the look for you. Thanks again to my roommate Lucy for being my model. Enjoy your makeup adventures!
