I Tried 6 Different Fitness Classes, and Here’s What Happened

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Working out…

Some people hate it, but most love it. There’s nothing like working up a good sweat and feeling the beads of accomplishment drip down your face and onto the ground. However, being a diligent person and working out every day is hard as a full-time student, and while we’re laying it all out here, you are probably involved with other activities as well. Think about it, you have a test to study for, then you have a club meeting to go to, and then you have to go buy groceries for you not to starve. Where is the time to workout?

Well not to worry, I have the solution you have been looking for…UF group fitness classes. This is going to change your routine for the better! The workout classes are either 45 minutes or an hour, which is a perfect amount of time to get a workout in. I went to 6 different UF group fitness classes, so I can give you the lowdown of what you can expect.

1. Stadium Conditioning

This workout is for someone looking to spice up their stadium workout routine. From going to this class, I learned there are way more workouts you could do at Ben Hill Griffin stadium than just running up and down the stairs. You meet up with two trainers at the Student Rec lobby, then you run to the stadium and follow their workout of the day. Don’t bring water, it will definitely suck to carry it to and from the stadium, just drink water at the water fountains in the stadium.

2. Cycle (45)

Okay I’m going to be honest here, cycling is difficult but super fun. First of all, almost all cycling classes that I’ve been to are in the dark, and the music is always blasting. If you are looking for a good sweat, don’t worry you will be drenched by the end of this class. Also, no need to worry about how to set up the bike, the instructors are always super helpful on how to set up your bike and what you can expect from their class. Bring water, trust me; you’re going to need it.

3. IBurn

I recently discovered this class and not going to lie, I am obsessed. This is a class for someone looking to build muscle. This class isn’t so much a full-out cardio session, but muscle toning for sure. You will most likely work with hand weights, body bars and mats. You will and are going to feel sore the day after, but if you go consistently, there is no doubt you will rock it!

4. Ballet Strength

Shout all to all my people who have done dance in the past and also don’t know how to dance at all. This was by far the most interesting class I ever took. However, this is not a class where you will feel out of breath and sweat pools of sweat. It’s more of a workout where you are stretching your muscles with ballet-like movements. You are barefoot the entire class, which is pretty different from most other classes and can embrace your inner black-swan for an hour.

5. Boot camp

If you’re in the mood for working out outside, boot camp is perfect for you! When I first transferred to UF, I would go to boot camp all the time because I used to live at Lakeside Residential Complex. Boot camp takes place at Maguire field and is a mixture of timed workouts ranging from cardio to core- to strength-training. If you love working out in big groups, this is the class for you!

6. Kickboxing

If you’re looking for a class where you are moving constantly, boxing is for you. This class has you kicking, jumping and moving to the beat of the music. You leave the class feeling very energetic and pumped for the day! There isn’t any punching bags to punch, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t feel like Rocky Balboa at the end of the class.

Hope this little guide helps you find the perfect workout for you!
