Almost everyone thinks of Canton solely as a home to St. Lawrence, but students might not be aware of all of the amazing hidden gems that Canton has stored away up here in the North Country.

  1. The Yoga Loft (Website: http://www.yoga-loft.org)

Want to get off campus for a little bit and get your yoga on? Well, Canton has just the place for you! Right downtown on Main Street, The Yoga Loft features classes for affordable prices, with experienced instructors, which will leave you feeling like you got the most bang for your buck! Check our their website before going, because they often have $5 specials on their classes. You can’t beat that!

2.  Traditional Arts in Upstate New York/TAUNY (Website: http://tauny.org)

Check out this nonprofit organization, where you can go and get a peek at all of the folk culture and traditions of the North County. Stop by for some cool music, crafts, and look at the amazing talent of some North Country residents. They have a storefront at the entrance, and the back and upper floors are filled with cool artifacts and pieces of history from the area. *Fun fact: They also usually have some volunteer opportunities available, as well as internships, if you ask!

3. The Remington Recreation Trail

This 3.5-mile trail on the outskirts of the St. Lawrence University golf course is the perfect place for a running route or for a nice walk with friends during the fall weather.

4. Nature’s Storehouse (http://www.natures-storehouse.com)

Canton is home to some of the cutest, most quaint shops around. Nature’s Storehouse is a small store filled with tons of organic, fresh, and healthy foods, as well as supplements and vitamins. Be good to your body and pick something up here, while also supporting one of our town’s many small businesses! (If you want even more fresh and local options, also check out the Farmers’ Markets in downtown Canton every Tuesday and Friday throughout the fall).

5. Grasse River Heritage Trail

Another great trail to go to clear your mind. Looking over the Grasse River, this trail has gorgeous views and offers a great spot to get off campus for a little bit– but you can also walk there from campus and it is definitely a doable outing if you’re on a time crunch!

Enjoy all the amazing spots that our area has to offer and take advantage of the outdoors this week!

St. Law U '20

Hi everyone! I'm Kristen! I am a Performance and Communications arts and Psychology double major, and plan to one day hold a career in the public relations field. On campus, some of my favorite things to do are get chai lattes at the bookstore, run the nearby trails, head into town for some kombucha, or hang out at my sorority house with my friends!
Hi! I am Colby Hoffman, a Boston-born Campus Correspondent at St. Lawrence University located in Canton, New York. I am in the Class of 2020 and am pursuing a major in Communications with a minor in Sociology. Aside from running our chapter, I am also a member of the Women's Lacrosse Team, a content strategist on the University's Social Media Team, the Alumni Relations Chair of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and an Ambassador & Tour Guide in our Admissions Office! In my free time, I enjoy going for walks around our beautiful campus, hanging out with friends over good food, researching travel destinations, and drinking iced coffee.
