A Woman’s Moon Circle & You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

You take off your shoes before you enter this sacred room. Your bare feet are cold on the ground. You’re here for a purpose. You’re here to cleanse, to release, to dive into your energy of your Divine energy. Your Moon Circle leader smiles warmly you at the door with white sage and a feather in each hand. She cleanses you and you enter your sacred space. Cushions circle around a tapestry, laden with crystals, candles, and herbal tea. You cross your legs comfortably and breathe, just breathe, as you wait for your fellow sisters to arrive.

We go through a lot as women. We bear the weight of the world on our shoulders, usually putting ourselves and our own feelings on the back burner for the happiness of others. On top of that, we go through so many hardships and emotional hurricanes. And what’s even worse is that we go through these things by ourselves.

We may not want to tackle all of our problems alone. No one does. The feeling of disconnection from other women is so prevalent, but all hope is not lost. There are groups, clubs, and special communities where women can connect with each other.

Recently, a new trend, or rather, the revival of an ancient trend, is available for women today, if you know where to look for them. Women’s circles of various kinds are popping up all over for the health and wellness of women. Usually, these are circles generally meet once a month. Depending on what you want to add to your life, several of these women’s circles engage in activities such as:

  • Yoga

  • Meditation

  • Chanting

  • Journaling/Goal-Setting

  • Affirmations/Aspirations

  • Breathwork

  • Circle-sharing

  • The Feasting of dark chocolate

  • Herbal Tea

  • Horoscopes/Astrology

  • Prayer/Intention Setting

  • Dance

  • Crystals

  • Reiki

When we share our stories with other women, we build a connection. I strongly recommend finding a women’s circle that fits you and your needs. Taking an hour or two out of your schedule once a month will truly benefit your overall sense of well-being. You’ll feel like you got everything off your chest emotionally, your body will be relaxed after some yoga, and most of all, you’ll build kinship with your fellow woman. Many of us go through the same things, but we’re so caught up in the stress of our own worlds that we don’t realize that we can rely on each other.

You’ve made it this far so here are two centers on Long Island that host women’s circles. Some of them do cost a fee but usually not a crazy bank-breaking amount. Others are donation-based. Check out their websites for exact schedules and details:

Women’s Empowerment & Breathwork Circle

Long Island Healing Arts & Learning Center

868 West Jericho Turnpike

Huntington, NY 11743

Women’s Moon Circle

Revolution Yoga

Remember also that your local metaphysical store, holistic health center, or yoga studio may host these women’s circles. Keep in mind that it may not always be the most advertised event. Look for what you want, set your intention, and your path will open up for you.
