The Dua Lipa Concert Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

An ecstatic crowd packed the Boston House of Blues this past Monday night as Dua Lipa kicked off the first show on the United States leg of her Self-Titled Tour. Fans huddled on the floor and mezzanine levels of the venue, attempting to push as close to the stage as humanly possible to fully experience the event.

The 22-year-old British singer, who started her career posting videos on YouTube at age fourteen, skyrocketed to widespread popular appeal since then. Her advancement in the music industry opened opportunities for her to go on tour with the likes of Troye Sivan, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay.

The night began with a six-song set from opener, Marteen, a young man from the San Francisco Bay Area with a Pop and R&B sound. When he revealed himself to be only sixteen years old, the crowd gasped with astonishment.

As the lights flickered back on in order for workers to prep for Dua Lipa to take the stage, the crowd murmured with excitement.

As the lights dimmed once again, Dua Lipa arrived on stage to cheers from adoring fans anxious to hear her music. She kicked off her set with her hit “Hotter Than Hell,” before moving to fan favorites like “Scared To Be Lonely,” “Blow Your Mind (Mwah),” and “IDGAF.” Every single one of Dua Lipa’s songs are catchy but still contain substance.

With a “see you soon, Boston,” Dua Lipa exited the stage. As she did so, the crowd began chanting her name. She then emerged from a cloud of smoke for her encore including two of her most popular songs, “Be The One” and “New Rules.”

“New Rules” is Dua Lipa’s newest single currently topping the Billboard charts. The song explains rules a woman and her friends created to get over an ex-boyfriend. Women everywhere feel a sense of empowerment with this song.

Dua Lipa made her way off the stage as the smoke cleared and the screams faded. Her stage presence is magnificent. If you have the chance, go see her. You won’t regret it.

Dua Lipa’s Self-Titled Tour continues in North America through February.
