The college struggle is real in so many ways, but one big cause of stress is being tight on cash. Whether you’re in a major that doesn’t give you time to have a job on the side, or you just need some extra dough for the holidays, here are some apps that will help you save money.

Ipsos I-Say

Ipsos-Say is a survey site where you can take simple surveys starting at just 10 minutes long. For each survey you complete, you will get 40 points or more than can be used to redeem gift cards for Starbucks, Amazon, and more! Use them as easy gifts or keep them for yourself, no judgment here.

RetailMeNot

RetailMeNot is a great app to use to save at your favorite stores. Search for the store and see any deals that are happening as well as get exclusive discount codes and coupons that can be used in-store or online. Great for buying gifts for the holidays (and shopping sprees)!

Ibotta and Checkout 51

Hate spending your whole paycheck at the grocery store because everything looks so darn good after that 8-hour day of classes? No worries. Earn some of that cash back with Ibotta and Checkout 51. These apps let you search for products that you want to buy and add their rebates to your list. Once you get home, you scan the barcodes on the products for the rebates you want to redeem, take a picture of your receipt, and bam! You’ve got money in your virtual wallet that you can redeem at any time.

Achievement

Have a Fitbit and track your calories every day? Start getting rewarded for your healthy habits! Achievement allows you to link your fitness apps and earn a small amount of points for the things you’re doing every day. You get $10 once you reach 10,000 points, and while it may take a while to get to that goal, it doesn’t take any added effort for the points to start adding up. The more apps you connect, the faster you’ll earn!

Ebates and Dosh

Similar to Ibotta and Checkout 51, these are rebate apps. Instead of groceries, Ebates and Dosh allow you to get cash back on virtually everything else. You search for the rebates you want to use and follow their link to the site you want. Once the merchant clears the purchase, your credits will be applied to your account and can be withdrawn later.

Pocket Points

Pocket Points allows you to earn points every time you leave your phone locked while you’re in class. Just turn on your location services, open the app, and lock your phone. The longer you leave your phone locked, the more points you earn (on Tuesdays you earn double the points!) You can only earn points when you’re on campus, and they can be redeemed for discounts on local food, drinks, clothes, and more.

Kroger

A lot of students at WVU choose Kroger as their go-to grocery store. Why not get added benefits? Sign up for Kroger’s rewards system to get the best deals on your favorite products as well as earn fuel points! Who doesn’t love free gas?

Now go out and start saving!

Hi everyone! My name is Emmy Rinehart, and I am a sophomore at WVU. I am majoring in strategic communications with an emphasis in PR and a minor in psychology. I am a Feature Twirler in the Pride of West Virginia Marching Band, and I love writing. I can't wait to share that love with you!
Hi ladies and gents, my name is Mel, Melanie if you're feelin' fancy. I'm a senior studying advertising, political science and fashion at West Virginia University. In addition to my studies, I am the Campus Correspondent for the WVU HC Chapter! You can hear me on the radio at U92 FM reporting the news and hosting morning shows. If I'm not there, I'm most likely at the local Panera eating my body weight in broccoli cheddar soup or writing about the daily, awkward encounters I experience. I represenative of the college of media as an ambassador and the prez of the magazine club. Oversized sweatshirts and jean on jean are my aesthetics. Lover, not a fighter unless you tell me Joe Jonas wasn't the best Jonas. Laters, baby.
