Spectrum: CSU’s Fashion Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CSU chapter.

Spectrum – CSU’s Fashion Show

Majority of people laugh & ask ‘how is that even a major’ when I tell them I’m studying Apparel & Merchandising. Most don’t associate fashion with Colorado but with three concentrations ranking within the top 15 nationally, the Department of Design and Merchandising is CSU’s little secret.

Every spring the students of the Department of Design and Merchandising at Colorado State University plan, fund, and execute a full production fashion show. This spring, the show titled ‘Spectrum’ will be held on Friday April 6th, 2018 at the Lincoln Center at 7:30pm.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of the class who coordinates the entire show. The class consists of around 30 students who are divided up into four committees: VIP & Sponsorship, Modeling & Garment, Stage, and Publicity.

I’m on the stage committee and boy has it been a crazy semester trying to plan, fund, and execute a full production fashion show on top of work, class, and other actives. But I’ve loved every minute of it & am so thankful for the opportunities the Department of Design & Merchandising has offered me.

‘Spectrum’, will showcase 24 senior design collections. The designs are a spectrum of ideas, colors, and style. Designs made from recycled parachutes designed by the junior draping class will also be showcased at the event. The show, entirely organized & run by students within the department is a full production show.  The one night only event allows the department to showcase the incredible things they are teaching their students. It’s a side of Colorado State that is not talked about enough and it’s an event you won’t want to miss.

Tickets for the show range from $10-$50 depending on seat location and whether oe wants VIP or not. The VIP ticket holders have premium reserved seating along with a VIP reception before the show. Drinks and hor d’oeuvres will be available at the reception following a silent auction featuring donations from local businesses. With the show being a week away, tickets are very limited so be sure to get yours & not miss out on this one night only event!

Be sure to stay updated with Her Campus CSU to see photos of the show & interviews from students who put on the show.

The Department of Design and Merchandising is a part of the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State.  This program ranks very high among the best fashion schools in the nation.
