Here’s How We Can All Raise Our Own Self-Confidence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

We’ve all had those days when we don’t feel quite ourselves and think “this is just not my day.” Or maybe you even realize that lately you haven’t had the confidence that you once had. Being comfortable in your own skin is something that many of us struggle with on a daily basis, but know that it’s perfectly normal. Whether stress has taken its toll or you haven’t worked on becoming more self-assured, there are ways to charge up that radiating confidence I know you have.

First and foremost, forget the haters and be your own motivator. You know yourself best and if you feel the most confident in workout clothes or your favorite pair of jeans, rock it. Do not let others bring you down or throw negative comments your way. You are the one in charge of your own happiness.

Second, remind yourself that we all have bad days. Some days things go way south and that is okay. No one is expecting you to be 100% poised and fearless all the time (that would be exhausting).

Third, never self-hate. Being harsh to yourself will never help boost your confidence and it will only make things worse. Never tell yourself you cannot do something because you are truly capable of anything and everything.

Fourth, live in the moment. This is one I have to remind myself of daily because stress and future events can seem daunting. Wipe away your pre-existing worries of what the future will hold and focus on what you are doing now.

Fifth, change a habit if it bothers you. If you feel self-conscious about something aesthetically or internally, do something about it. You have the power to implement healthy changes and live a fuller, happier life. For example you can choose to exercise, become more organized or work on a certain social skill.

Lastly, practice mindfulness. Use kindness and compassion towards others because changing someone else’s day will eventually rub off on your own mood. Giving back and helping others will elicit a clearer mind and raise confidence levels in no time.

Hi! I'm Hailey. I am a senior at the Unviersity of Oregon studying Advertising. I am a workout nut and a Certified Personal Trainer at our campus REC center. In my free time you can find me outside, either hiking, biking or exercising. I am also completley obsessed with the fashion industry and will hopefully be going into Fashion Merchandising and Marketing in the near future.
