For the first article of this new academic year, I wanted to explain what Her Campus here at SVC is all about. The fall semester is less than a week away and I’m sure you’re all planning out your to-do’s for the upcoming year, so let’s see if you want to make time for Her Campus in your schedule!
What is Her Campus, anyway?
Her Campus is a national online magazine for college women, actually it’s the #1 new-media brand for the empowered college woman! Covering topics such as style, beauty, health, love, entertainment, DIY, careers, and so much more. Her Campus’ mission is to serve college women across every platform, allowing them to explore their creativity and make an impact. Her Campus was founded in 2009 by undergraduate women studying at Harvard University. It serves as a career launching point for college journalists and a marketing service for brands looking to reach a college audience. There are over 360 chapters of Her Campus nationwide, spanning across 11 countries! So, it’s much more than just another club. With Her Campus, you have the opportunity to become a published author and meet fellow goal-driven women. Our goal at Saint Vincent is to empower the women on our campus by serving as a professional stepping stone for their future careers and supporting each other along the way.
How would I be contributing?
Well, at Her Campus Saint Vincent, there are many opportunities for you to contribute your skill-set! Love writing? Join our writing team! Our writers publish articles every other week, on any topic of their choosing. Let your creativity flow!! Some weeks, we have certain topics we would like to cover, so suggested article topics will be sent in the weekly newsletter. Not big into writing, but still want to get involved? Perfect, join our PR staff! This includes 4 committees structured around a creative interest. The Events Team will involve planning / hosting events on and off campus. So, if you have a passion for getting people involved with cool activities, this one’s for you! Another option is the Publicity and Marketing Team, where you have the chance to recommend and reach out to brands for us to collaborate with. Members of this team can try out some of the awesome products we receive then review / promote them! You could also be a part of our Social Media Team. This team can recommend and create content for our social media pages. Members interested in graphic design or photo editing would be a great addition to this team! The last PR option is the Photography and Videography Team. We’re always looking for photos for our social media and articles, so this team may be asked to capture events around campus or within our club! We are planning on introducing more videos to our feed this year, so anyone with knowledge on video production or editing would flourish on this team.
What are some activities that the club offers?
Every semester Her Campus hosts a variety of on and off campus events! We also have monthly meetings in which we strive to empower each other, give away cool collab items from the brands you help us find, and discuss future events! Events that can include but aren’t limited to: information sessions, group collaboration, tables in the Carey Center, self defense classes, game nights, etc. We are open to any and all suggestions for fun activities we can do as a group.
