Tips & Tricks for Sorority Recruitment 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Sorority recruitment at the University of Utah is this upcoming weekend. Get excited! Going through recruitment is something unlike anything else you will ever experience, and can definitely be nerve-wracking. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to expect. So here are some tips to help make the whole process go a little smoother!

Bring water!

It is going to be HOT recruitment weekend. You will be doing a lot of walking, and you don’t want to get dehydrated. There will be drinks there, but you should be prepared just in case. You can bring a small backpack or purse with you to keep your stuff in to make it easier!

Make friends with girls in your recruitment group

You are going to be in the same recruitment group for the whole weekend, so get to know them! There are hundreds of amazing girls going through recruitment that could end up being long-term friends. It doesn’t matter if you end up in different sororities than the other people that you meet during recruitment, you can still stay close! Also- if you go through recruitment with a best friend don’t stress if you end up in different houses. Panhellenic love is alive and real at the U, so it will be easy to stay friends!

Wear comfortable shoes

Greek row at the University of Utah is located on a steeeeeeep hill. You will be walking up and down this hill all day and will want to wear shoes that don’t make your feet want to scream for bloody murder. Pick shoes that are cute, but practical for long days of walking.

Bring a snack

Bring a small snack just in case! It is a long day and you never know when you might need a quick bite. There will be snacks available and you’ll get a lunch break, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Go into it with an open mind

Sorority recruitment is a crazy, fun, stressful, exciting process. Keeping an open mind throughout the whole experience is going to be the key to making everything work. You may have heard stereotypes or have preconceived notions about the sororities at the University of Utah, but throw all of those away. All of them are amazing and have incredible women involved in them, so at the end of the day, you can’t go wrong. People will keep saying to you, “trust the process”. But it’s true. Just see what girls you connect to and go from there.

Be yourself

Even though it seems like it in all of the movies, there is no typical sorority girl. Everyone is different and there isn’t one right way to be or act. Being yourself is super important in the recruitment. If you are being yourself you will find your people that will eventually be your home away from home and your new “family”.

Talk to your Rho Gamma

Your Rho Gammas are going to be your go-to gals for all things recruitment. They are there for you if you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed or if you just want to talk about your experience and get advice. They have been through this process before and they get it. Don’t be afraid to go to them. They are here to make this weekend the best it can be for you!

If you haven’t signed up for sorority recruitment yet… what are you waiting for?!
