Dear freshman me,

Don’t be so afraid.

I walked through the club fair as a senior last week and remembered doing the exact same thing as a freshman, but the only difference was you were so intimidated. You had no idea who you were or who you wanted to be and you let that stop yourself from growing.

These four years fly by and I wish that you had done so much more because now I am cramming everything into senior year. You were so naive; you should have believed them when they said it’ll be over in a blink.

Here are the things I’m going to tell you now, that I wish you had known then:

Go to office hours.

It is okay to eat alone.

Eat the tub of ice cream.

Be present in every relationship.

It’s okay to ask for help. Please ask for help.

Put your homework down and go have some fun.

Give yourself advice, and take it! Be your own best friend.

Don’t stop trying to make friends even if you have a tight group.

You will meet so many inspiring and wonderful people – go find them.

I know at times it seems like the end of the world, but it does get better (believe me, it got better).

Stick up for your beliefs, defend them when you need to, but be open-minded.

Go to the gym even if you don’t know what you are doing.

Get involved!! (Why didn’t you get involved earlier!?!)

Don’t be so self-conscious, you are beautiful.

You won’t want to leave when it is time to.

Call mom and dad more.

Do you. Be you.

Lastly, enjoy and cherish every moment, because I really wish I had. I don’t have everything figured out, but I am doing really well. Good luck. (Senior year is awesome by the way).

Yours truly,

The senior you
