I am a Junior and I have chosen to continue living on campus.I am involved in several different clubs and organizations so It just makes sense for me to be at school all the time. Every once in a while though, it is very rewarding to get off campus and do something fun. I am very fortunate to have been offered a weekend retreat in the Adirondacks. My college hosts a Leadership Weekend once a year on Raquett Lake, NY. This weekend is a great opportunity for students to bond with new people and learn about different leadership styles.

This year was my second year at Leadership weekend. It is a really awesome experience that I think more students should take advantage of. Sometimes it can be easy to feel trapped always

being on campus. Seeing the same people and places everyday can feel like a boring routine. We left on Friday afternoon and headed towards Old Forge. One of my favorite places to be is the Adirondacks. The temperatures are cooler and being hidden in a bunch of trees feels rather calming to me.

Along with getting away from campus and my typical routine, it was really nice to bond and get to know different people from school whom I may not have otherwise known or talked to. Last year I actually met my boyfriend on the retreat, and to be honest I don’t know if I would have met him otherwise.

So, my advice is to really take advantage of trips, outings and other opportunities to get off campus and explore the area around you! It is so deserving to take a weekend off from studying and working to just relax and explore.

Meet Bianca, I am currently a Junior at Utica College in Utica, NY.  I am a Criminal Justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security.  Crime investigation has always been something that interests me.  I’m dedicated and passionate and it’s hard for me to quit things. I get that from my father so don’t hold it against me- he was a veteran and police officer for 20 years.   Growing up in a family centered around law enforcement has helped guide me in this direction, and I will forever be grateful.  After graduation I intend to continue on to law school where I can further my education in hopes of becoming a criminal defense lawyer and later on a District Attorney.  An interesting fact about myself is that I found the passion to be a criminal defense lawyer from watching the O.J. Simpson case.  The facts and conspiracy theories evoked a whole new passion behind criminal investigation that I intend to use in my future.  One of my most prominent moments in my writing career was when I wrote for an online magazine and had my most prevalent article hit 1.6k shares.  I believe in treating people with the same kind of respect and manners you would expect in return, and in a way it has helped shaped my expectations in life.   When you first meet me I won’t be the loudest in the room or the center of attention, but I will be intently listening to everything you say, for what you have to say may have a purpose. I believe in purpose. I believe that everyone is here to help you grow into who you are today and who you will be tomorrow.
