HC WVU ’18-’19: Meet Christina Kamkutis, Campus Editor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

HC: Introduce yourself!

CK: My name is Christina Kamkutis and I am a sophomore Human Nutrition and Foods major at WVU, but by the end of the semester I’ll be a Journalism major. I’m originally from Lakewood, Ohio.

HC: How did you decide on WVU?

CK: WVU was a really arbitrary choice for me! I only applied to schools in big cities until I randomly visited here towards the end of my senior year of high school. After the visit I applied right away and got really great financial aid so I accepted my admission almost immediately!

HC: What advice do you have for students considering switching majors?

CK: I was in a major I thought I really loved, but the classes ended up being nothing what I thought they would be and I didn’t enjoy them at all. I was really frustrated for a while because I was considering switching to journalism but was worried there would be very little money in it after I graduate. I finally decided that it was dumb to think about money because you can be successful at anything if you work hard enough for it! If you’re considering switching I would say make sure whatever you’re considering is something you really love or else you’re going to really regret it after graduation. What you do now sets the tone for the rest of your life so make sure it’s something you love!

HC: How did you get involved in Her Campus?

CK: The president, Maura, and I are from the same hometown and I saw her posting things about it and was really intrigued. This was during the time that I was still considering switching majors and honestly Her Campus helped me make my final decision. I texted Maura and as soon as I got involved I fell in love!

HC: What’s your favorite thing about Her Campus?

CK: I love that there are so many different girls in Her Campus. We’re all from different places and have different friend groups but we all come together and hang out at events and write/brainstorm articles as if we’ve known each other forever. I also love how great our content has been lately– everyone is KILLING IT.

HC: What else are you involved in at WVU?

CK: I also am involved with Ed on Campus and Mirage Magazine. Our activity director for Her Campus is the editor-in-chief for Mirage Magazine and so I talked to her about getting involved and so far I’m loving that as well! It’s very similar to Her Campus in the aspect that I contribute articles, but the magazine will be finished and published at the end of the semester so it’s cool because we’re actually working on a project rather than turning in articles every week to be uploaded.

HC: Anything else you’d like to add?

CK: If you’re having any hesitation towards getting involved around campus, just go for it! I used to think I wouldn’t have time but if you’re getting involved with things that actually interest you and are fun for you then you’ll want to make the time for it! I feel like I’m on a better schedule now being involved in two clubs, and I’m definitely way more organized. Getting involved is WORTH IT!
