Why Your Vote Matters!
It’s that time of the year again. I’m not talking about Halloween, I’m talking about election time.
Election time is here and that means if you are like me you are receiving political mail, ads on social media, and phone calls.
You may feel annoyed by all of this and think, “Why do I need to vote? It’s not a presidential election.” I think that is probably a feeling many college students experience, but there are so many reasons that you need to vote in this Midterm election.
This election day 35 of the 100 seats in the US Senate and all of the 435 seats in the US House of Representatives are up for election. This means for republicans to maintain control of the senate they need to maintain their 9 Senate seats. Thirty-six governors and three territory governors are running also. They are significant because the Governor of your state or territory has a lot of power. They sign and veto bills, act as the commander-in-chief for the state’s military, along with many other roles. There also many state representatives running for election. Along with local elections like mayor, city council, county clerk, etc.
Voting is an extremely important thing. You should vote because it’s a right that you have. We can make a difference in our country, state, and city by voting. If you want to vote in Iowa or Illinois you can register to vote on election day and all you need to bring is your ID.
