5 Rupi Kaur Poems Every Woman Should Read

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

At only 26 years old, Indian poet Rupi Kaur has written two New York Times bestselling poetry books Milk and Honey and The Sun and Her Flowers. She has been the center of controversies in the past and is sometimes referred to as an “instapoet” since she rose to fame through social media.

Her poetry books feature poems about heartbreak, sexuality, and self love and tackle controversial topics such as rape, immigration and female masturbation. Rupi captivates audiences with her bewitching imagery and straightforward approach.

Despite the brevity of her poems and the criticism she’s received over the years, there is no denying that her poetry has encouraged countless women and made tangible many feelings that I myself could never find the words to express.

Here are five poems I think every woman should read to ignite her inner badass:

1. the sun and her flowers page 233

2.  the sun and her flowers page 213

3. milk and honey page 30

4. milk and honey page 169

5. milk and honey page 179

Rupi recently announced she’ll be writing her third book soon, and I already can’t wait to get my hands on it!
