On Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the Williamsburg room in Squires, Her Campus Virginia Tech held our 3rd annual Media Mixer. This event works to bring together different media organizations on campus in order to foster collaboration and celebrate the contributions of the diverse voices on Virginia Tech’s campus.
The event started off with introductions, through an icebreaker game started by the Co-Directors of Events, Jessica and Sara. The game had guests collect cards upon arrival, with each card listing a celebrity name. These public figure cards brought guests together, based off of finding their matching “iconic ex”. Once all the pairs had matched, unique conversations started and the night was off to an interesting start.
Guests attended from several organizations, including the Fashion Merchandising and Design Society (FMDS), She, VT Vogue, VTThrift, and Zappy, LLC. This event gave these campus organizations a chance to network with the ladies of Her Campus Virginia Tech, as well as to learn about each other.
Throughout the event, guests attending had the chance to enjoy refreshments from several sponsors, who contributed food, drinks, and prizes. Sponsors included Her Campus Media, Mellow Mushroom, Sugar Magnolia, and Campus Cookies.
Her Campus Media donated prizes, including hair products, motivational booklets, and other beauty products. Mellow Mushroom donated delicious appetizers, including spinach dip and hummus with pita chips. Sugar Magnolia, a new local business in downtown Blacksburg, donated several snacks, including peppermint pretzels and flavored popcorn. Campus Cookies donated plenty of their tasty varieties of cookies for guests to sample. We thank our sponsors for their participation and involvement with our organization!
This annual event is a great place for campus media groups to join in collaboration and to recognize each other’s hard work. Our team was happy to make all sorts of new connections happen and to support new, local groups in the process. Cheers to kicking off the holidays and to another successful Media Mixer!
