Five Reasons Why I Love Being a Gamma Sigma Sigma Sister

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

One year ago, I walked into an interest meeting for a service sorority, Gamma Sigma Sigma, just to find out more, and before the meeting even ended, I knew I was going to join. That split-second decision turned out to be one of the best choices I’ve made at Clemson. My Gamma Sig sisters have become my family, and as recruitment approaches, here are five reasons I love being a Gamma Sig sister – and why you should check it out!

1. Community Service

As a service sorority, we’re all about community service! If you have a passion relating to community service, I bet we can find a perfect opportunity for you, and if we can’t, you can bring your favorite organization to us. From organized service days to connections for individual volunteer work, Gamma Sig makes it so easy – and fun – to find incredible service opportunities.

2. Flexibility

Every college student knows that schedules can be crazy. From club obligations to class schedules (and the elusive free time we crave), it can be hard to find the time, but if you’re worried about not finding time for your community service, don’t fret. Gamma Sig knows about college schedules, so opportunities are flexible and abundant – some are even on campus. If you can’t make it to an organized event, they’ll connect you to local organizations, and independent community service (even at home on breaks!) counts towards your overall goal of 25 community service hours.

3. Leadership Potential & Support

There are so many different roles in our sorority that you can take on as much – or as little— as you want. I’ll be honest, when I thought about applying for a position, I had some reservations. I was passionate about the topics involved in this chair position, but I didn’t know if I would be able to do it. However, my Gamma Sig sisters supported me through every step, and now, I’m so happy I applied and became a service chair. Even when I felt like I had no idea what I was doing, they were there for me.

4. The Best Fam!

My Gamma Sig experience wouldn’t be complete without my fam! My Big is undoubtedly the best big ever (don’t even try to fight me on this). And my Little is an actual ray of sunshine, and I love her so much.

5. All of My Incredible Sisters!

The best part about Gamma Sigma Sigma is the sisterhood! All of these girls are amazing, talented, unique individuals. They’re supportive and fun, and they’re there for you – in and out of chapter.

And there are so many more reasons to love this sisterhood! To find your favorite parts about being a Gamma Sigma Sigma sister, check out our recruitment events! From January 29th to the 31st, we’re holding recruitment at 7 pm in Daniel 206. For any questions, reach out to Gammasigebmembership@gmail.com.

Mayme Medlock is a junior at Clemson University, studying political science with an emphasis in international relations. In her free time, you'll find her chasing cute dogs, talking about studying abroad in the Balkans, watching copious amounts of Netflix, and putting people at ease when they question her name's pronunciation (May-m, not May-me).
