If you’re anything like me, you have succumbed to the vicious college student sleep schedule. Staying up late to do homework or watch TV, and then getting up super early to go to class. The worst part about it is that, no matter how hard you try, it is no longer possible to get your brain to shut down before 12:00 AM. Well, I am here to help.
These are a few things that I like to do that put me to sleep when I know I have a busy next morning.
-
Take CBD oil. I originally started taking CBD oil for my anxiety and I have found that it is very good at calming my nerves right before I go to bed. Stress disappears within 10 minutes after I have some of my orange-flavored, all natural, hemp derived, oil.
-
Write. I know that not everybody likes to write in their free time but I highly suggest keeping a journal. When you can’t sleep it is usually because your brain is still awake and processing information as fast as it can. Writing down everything about your day, planning your week, or just venting, can help your brain calm down and de-stress. I find that I start yawning a couple pages into writing.
-
Pet a cat. Well, okay, I know that not everybody is a cat person. I should say pet an animal. Cats, dogs, hamsters, pigs, and all animals are really good at calming you down. All you have to do is stroke their soft back for a little while and you’ll soon start to feel like cuddling up and falling asleep.
-
Listen to music. No, not your EDM/rave, listen to some sleepy time meditation music, or maybe just a few Vance Joy songs.
-
Chocolate melatonin. Good Day Chocolate is my favorite brand, but I am sure there are other companies that make these. They are little chocolate balls with 1mg of melatonin per piece, which means that eating a couple before bed will definitely help you sleep. I highly suggest taking a couple a few hours before you were planning on going to bed, that way you will want to go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier.
