3 Towns You Should Check Out on The Main Line

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryn Mawr chapter.

While you may be thinking about heading into Philly on your next free Friday or Saturday night, there’s actually a lot of fun things to do right in Bryn Mawr’s backyard.

The Philly suburb that Bryn Mawr calls home is known as the Main Line; it’s famous for its its history, shopping, and great restaurants. As stifling as ritzy suburbia can sometimes feel, these towns actually have a lot to offer college students. Read below for some ideas about where to spend your weekends on the Main Line!

Wayne, PA

Wayne reminds me a lot of the town I grew up in—there’s a movie theater, great casual and fancy restaurants, a cute coffee shop, and an awesome thrift store. There’s always people out and about and it’s really walkable.

Narberth, PA

Narberth is like a smaller version of Wayne with a little more character. It also has a movie theater, but the main street of town is a lot smaller than Wayne’s. There’s a few bars, a really delicious ice cream shop, and a dancewear store. One of the more unique events that takes place in Narberth is the annual Dickens Day Festival, which happens around the beginning of December. It’s basically a holiday craft fair where people dress in 19th-century costumes and yell at you in Victorian-era English—I don’t know if you could ask for anything more than that!

Ardmore, PA

While this seems like an obvious town to check out, since the Blue Bus will take you there on Saturdays, I felt that it should be on the list so I could tell you that there’s more to Ardmore than Suburban Square. If you walk out of the Suburban Square shopping street and go under the train tracks, you’ll end up on Lancaster Ave. Ardmore’s got a ton of shops for you to check out: Maido, the Japanese grocery store, the Junior League Thrift Store and Viva Video, the only video store in the area.

And finally, while I won’t go too much into detail about them because I’m sure you’ve spent time there before, don’t forget about Bryn Mawr and Haverford!
