Five Simple Ways to be More Eco-Friendly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Lately, I’ve been noticing that I use a lot of plastic products in my day to day life. At one point in my week, I stopped and realized that the amount of plastic I use must add up over time. It’s actually easy to help the environment, so here are a few simple ways to go green!

1. Swap out plastic sandwich bags for reusable ones

Reusable bags are affordable, lightweight, and easy to clean. If you’re one to use a lot of sandwich bags, make an easy switch to these environmentally friendly bags! Some well known and affordable brands include Stasher, (re)zip, and Full CircleSource//Reformationhealth.com

2. Use reusable food wraps

Want to save your leftovers? Opt for reusable food wraps instead of the usual plastic wrap. These wraps mold to your bowls by the heat of your hands. Some affordable brands include Bee’s Wrap and Abeego.Source//beeswrap.com

3. Choose environmentally friendly feminine hygiene products

According to Friends of the Earth, menstrual pads can contain up to 90% plastic. As girls, we have the power to choose environmentally friendly feminine hygiene products that will leave less of a carbon footprint. Check out these organic and plastic-free feminine hygiene products! Here are some brands to consider: Natracare, Seventh Generation, Organyc, Freda

5. Thrift!

Thrifting is a fun and inexpensive way to be sustainable. According to Sustain Your Style, “the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world”. Thrifting isn’t only great for the environment, but you never know what trendy vintage finds you’ll discover!Source//Marla Catherine
