Hello and welcome to my review on the fits and fashions from Awards Season 2019!

The red carpets for each event were filled with stars wearing some absolutely fabulous pieces of clothing. With major fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Balmain all making their mark this season.

This article will see me review my favourite look from each of the many events.

DISCLAIMER: Gaga killed it at every event so I’m going to avoid talking about her unless it’s necessary.

I’ll start out with the Golden Globes, held on the 6th of January.

The first awards show of 2019 brought out so many stars and out of all of them, my favourite HAS to be…

Gaga. Yes, first event, we’re getting her out of the way NOW because this was THE best look of the night.

Gaga walked the carpet in a gorgeous periwinkle blue gown by Valentino. Arriving as part of the A Star Is Born cast, Gaga looked as if she was floating down the carpet almost in parallel to her predecessor Judy Garland, whom many presumed her dress was in homage to. Gaga simply claimed it was a coincidence and that she never realised. The final detail that made this look for me was the periwinkle hair spray applied to Gaga’s updo.

Critic’s Choice Awards held on the 13th of January.

My favourite for this carpet was surprising to me after looking back through all the looks.

Charlize Theron in her stunning Givenchy gown steals my best-dressed crown in this round! The gown has a beautiful top-to-toe gradient from a gunmetal silver into a pale blue with a cheeky cut-out below her bust. Theron shimmers in this gown as she attended the event as a nominee for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in Tully. Unfortunately, she lost out to the absolute queen that is Olivia Colman but at least Charlize looked stunting sis.

SAG Awards; held on the 27th of January

These awards brought out so many stars, but my favourite of the night HAD to be, the one and only, Angel Bassett.

Angela Bassett who attended the awards along with the rest of the cast of Black Panther had a very successful night as the movie picked up the most awards at the ceremony. She walked the carpet in a stunning Georges Chakra gown that complimented her figure, kept her looking young and flashed a little bit of the girls. Angela is one of my newfound favourite actresses since I binged my way through American Horror Story. Her characters are almost always my favourite of the season… except for Roanoke but I’m not here to talk about that. Her role in Black Panther as the Queen Mother of the titular character was equally as iconic, yet much more regal than any of the other roles I’ve seen her play.

The Grammy Awards that were held on the 10th of February

A different range of stars to choose from this time around. Musicians and actors can be like chalk and cheese when it comes to red carpet choices, but this year the looks of all our favourite artists have been elevated and my fave elevated it so much that her shoulder pads reached halfway up her head…

Yes, I’m talking about Janelle Monae in her absolutely gorgeous Jean Paul Gaultier textured, structural gown. Janelle has never been one to be subtle on the red carpet and this look has fully left me gooped at how stunning she looks. Attending the awards in support of her album ‘Dirty Computer’, Janelle stood out from all the other artists in attendance. I am just so impressed.

the BAFTAs that were held on the same day as the Grammys!! ESCANDALO!

Anyway, my favourite of the night is very fitting due to her British heritage, but Letitia Wright killed it in her Stella McCartney suit. This is the first suit that has hit this list and I’m usually pretty hard on them due to how gowns can have so much more detail and be way more flattering on the body than a suit. Letitia’s suit, however, is perfectly cut for her body and hugs her figure beautifully. For being a plain white suit, this look is elevated due to her age and aesthetic as a whole.

Letitia is going to be one to watch in future awards seasons, I can feel it.

The BRIT Awards held on the 20th of February.

The carpet wasn’t as daring or extravagant as some of the others in this list but I still found a favourite in one of my favourite artists in an outfit quintessentially them.

Florence Welch. As the lead of Florence and the Machine, Welch has created a pretty iconic look for herself – floor length, lacy gowns. The one she chose to wear for the BRIT Awards, however, is Gucci. The draping, the lace detailing, the puffy shoulders, everything about this gown screams Florence – and boy does this look never get old! The bohemian look can be cliché sometimes, but Gucci and Welch herself have made it a look that will go down as one of Flo’s best looks.

The Oscars that were held on the 24th of February.

For the first time in this list, we have a tie – and they’re not women.

Billy Porter and Shangela truly made waves at the final event of the season.

Porter chose to wear a Christian Siriano gown onto the carpet and looked positively regal whilst RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Shangela wore a gown designed by NYC-based designer Diego Montoya and truly proved why she is a true Drag Superstar.

I found it far too difficult to choose one over the other as both made huge statements, Shangela was the first drag queen to ever walk the red carpet at the Oscars and Porter challenged traditional forms of masculinity in the most beautiful way possible.

RIP GENDER NORMS WE’LL SEE YOU NEVER XOXO 2019 AWARDS SEASON!
