This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Ever wonder what those yummy fruits you bring for lunch are doing for your body? Well, we’ve brought together some facts about the health benefits of your favorite fruits from reliable sources. Next time you head to the grocery store to pick up produce, consider some of these options and how they can help you and your body feel the best possible!

Cherries

These naturally sweet treats have many unexpected health benefits! According to an article from Well & Good, cherries are high in fiber and can be anti-inflammatory! Plus, it turns out cherries are a natural source of melatonin and so they may give you those few extra minutes of sleep you need at night.  One of our favorite ways to prepare cherries is by adding them to a bowl of Greek yogurt with your favorite granola and maybe even a spoonful of honey – a scrumptious way to end dinner!

Pears

Whoever thought that this wonderful fall fruit could be so good for you? According to Medical News Today and WebMD, pears are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and, if you eat them with the peel, they’re super high in fiber and contain lots of water to keep you full longer! Try throwing sliced pears in a spring salad mixed with olive oil and vinegar, almonds, and feta cheese or slice them in half, bake them and drizzle with honey!

Oranges

Not only are they stunning in color, but this citrus will also provide you with a wide variety of helpful nutrients, one of which is vitamin C! According to Medical News Today, one orange provides 130 percent of your vitamin C needs for the day! Not only that, but oranges also keep your heart healthy by providing fiber and potassium. Next time you pick up an orange at the grocery store, try slicing it up into wedges and packing it up for lunch, or squeeze some of the juice into hot water and add a little honey.

Peaches

Peaches are another delicious fruit to incorporate into your diet when they’re in season! According to Well and Good, Peaches are full of Vitamin C, fiber and potassium. They also contain calcium and will help keep you hydrated since they’re mostly made up of water. Though we all love a good peach, according to Well and Good it’s also good to keep in mind their sugar content. In order to make the most of peaches, it’s best to eat the whole fruit. You can also try slicing them, grilling them, and adding your favorite toppings.

So, now you know a little bit more about some of your favorite fruits and how they’re helping you and your body out! Fruits are great snacks to throw in a bag for lunch or slice to be paired with dinner. Not only do they taste delish, but they can also help keep your body happy & healthy!
