In a matter of days I will be graduating Cal Lutheran with a Bachelors degree in Communications as the first member of my family to go to college. This is something that I have always been so proud of accomplishing and yet now, even though I’m still very proud I am also kind of sad. As a transfer student I knew I wasn’t going to have as much time as other students and as a commuter I was really worried about making friends and finding a group of people that I knew I could relate to and rely on. Little did I know that Cal Lutheran would bring me some of the greatest people that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

On Admitted Students Day in 2017 I walked past multiple clubs and organizations with little interest, and then I found Her Campus. Once I found out that Her Campus had a social media team and that I could get work about my passion published in a national online magazine I knew this was the place for me. I have spent time on the writing team as well as on the social media team as both a team member and a director, but most importantly I was connected with women who understood me and who I was. In my opinion the two best things that this club has given me are my big and my little. It was so amazing to meet two people that I got along with so well and were similar to me in so many ways.

Something else that this school gave me was the chance to learn so many subjects from multiple perspectives, I have learned some sign language which I never thought I would have the opportunity to do, I gained experience at an internship with a makeup company that I never would have had the chance to work for if it weren’t for major requirements (probably my favorite required class ever), and I’ve written a research paper on a topic I was actually interested in…hint it was about makeup.

As a Simi Valley resident I’ve driven past the sign on the freeway that said “California Lutheran University Next Exit” more times than I can count and I remember telling myself, “That’s where I’m gonna go.” I never doubted that Cal Lutheran would be at minimum one of my top choices, so when Moorpark College had an on the spot admissions day for Cal Lutheran transfers I hopped on it as quick as I could. I’ll never forget that day, because that day I was admitted to CLU. Now 2 years later after an insane last semester taking 22 units (thanks Moorpark) I am preparing for the next step of my life which is admittedly terrifying but also inspiring and hopeful because even though I don’t know what’s going to happen, I’m excited beause I feel that my time at Cal Lutheran and with Her Campus has prepared me for what’s to come. So thank you Cal Lutheran, for the smiles, tears, incredible friendships and an education that I will always be grateful for.
