The start of every school year feels like a brand new beginning – new classes, new professors, new experiences. This is your chance to prove to yourself and everyone around you that you’re totally completely organized and always well dressed (sweatpants? No way.). You’re going to drink enough water, do your homework early, and get to bed even earlier……for about a week or so.

Maybe you’re some kind of superhuman who’s able to balance your life perfectly (and if you are, more power to you, girl.). I, on the other hand, am certainly not. I do, however, have a cute planner that I bought before school started which I fill up with lots of checklists. Do I always check everything off? Nope. But I made the list in the first place which must count for something, right?

That planner also has a calendar, where I write down all types of important deadlines and meetings. On the first week of school, it looked so do-able! A couple meetings here and there, maybe a few papers due. But once week two hit? The calendar stopped looking so organized and do-able and a lot more like it was going to swallow me whole.

So, I’m making a little promise to myself this semester. Am I going to be the flawless organized girl boss I was for syllabus week all the time? Probably not. Am I going to do my best and forgive myself when I fall short? Hell freaking yes. And you should too. I know that for a lot of people, perfection is something that can be more hurtful than helpful. It’s easy to get into the “all or nothing” mentality. Either you do all your homework for the next week or you sleep the entire day. Where’s the in between?

Instead of  being disappointed when I fall short,  I’m going to do my best, and I’m going to do what I’m capable of. Every day it’ll probably mean something different, and that’s okay! If it sometimes means missing a meeting or forgetting something I was supposed to get done…I’ll live. Just because you’re not perfect doesn’t mean you’re not badass. So keep doing you & doing what you can. You’re killing it.
