Across various social media platforms, there’s been a notable increase in CBD coverage by influencers. CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound found in hemp/marijuana. It yields a variety of health benefits and, as such, has become a popular supplement in the health and wellness community. But because it’s an active compound in marijuana, it’s gotten a bad rap and has been grossly mischaracterized. Even while it works to ease pain, anxiety, and improves sleeping habits, CBD is condemned by people who don’t understand what it is.

Here, we’ll take a look at a few common myths about CBD and prove them wrong.

Myth One: CBD will cause you to get high.

CBD is derived from different strains of the cannabis plant, which include hemp and marijuana. The compound is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it doesn’t have mind-altering effects. Marijuana contains low levels of CBD and higher levels of THC, the compound that produces the high associated with the drug. Hemp contains lower levels of THC and higher levels of CBD. CBD can be derived from both strains of the cannabis plant without ever having the potential to get you high. It can also give you an energy boost and improve your creativity.

Myth Two: CBD is addictive.

The idea that you can get addicted to CBD is one of the biggest misconceptions associated with its use. This mistake is likely connected to the compound’s origins in marijuana. Despite this association, multiple studies have concluded that CBD isn’t an addictive substance and we don’t build up a tolerance to it over time. In fact, it’s said to work better when used more often.

Myth Three: CBD and its health benefits were discovered recently.

Cannabis has been used for thousands of years, but because CBD was only recently legalized, many people are just now discovering its various health benefits. Since ancient times, humans have utilized cannabis in art, religious ceremonies, and medicine. It has even been speculated that Jesus used cannabis spiritually!

Myth Four: CBD hasn’t been proven to yield real health benefits.

While CBD isn’t a cancer cure-all as some people may try to have you believe, it has been shown to work in other ways. Studies and clinical trials have shown that CBD works to ease chronic pain, anxiety, and trouble sleeping as well as various other ailments.

Myth Five: All CBD products are the same.

Because CBD products range in concentration and the market is largely unregulated, not all CBD products are created equal. Anyone can sell CBD products and feign legitimacy. If the products these producers sell aren’t high quality, there is a good chance that they won’t yield the therapeutic benefits CBD is supposed to. For this reason, it’s important to buy from transparent sellers who offer third-party lab testing.

In a world where people are conditioned to prefer using pharmaceuticals, CBD is new to the scene but incredibly effective. It’s commonly misperceived to be its psychoactive counterpart, THC, and is usually written off due to one or more of the aforementioned myths. Once people understand what CBD is and how much better it is for your body than pharmaceuticals, we’ll move towards an age of healthier healing.
